You can try fingering the G like this:

320033

That's your middle finger at the 3rd fret of the low E-string, your index at the 2nd fret of the A-string, the D and G are open, your ring finger at the 3rd fret of the B-string and your pinky at the third fret of the high-E.

That way the ring finger acts as an anchor when you switch from the D to the G... it just stays put at the 3rd fret of the B-string. The hard part of switching from D to G is that all three fingers have to move in different directions. By keeping your ring finger on the B-string, it gives you a sort of guide.

Once you get the change down that way... then go back to the "more traditional" way of fingering the G... 320003... you'll probably find that it is easier now, since the middle and index fingers already know where to go.

Another thing you can do is just practice changing back and forth between D and G over and over again, but each time you make the change, concentrate on planting only one finger first and then once that finger is planted, put the other two down.

Do this while concentrating on planting the index finger... then switch to concentrating on planting the middle finger and then switch to concentrating on the ring finger. That will get your hand to remember the move pretty fast.

What about it folks.... anybody else got any good ideas for this?

I've found that moving around all the fingers in a chord change is always prone to errors. I use a rolling motion pivoting on the third finger and just make sure I'm not picking the string I'm targeting. I also use the 320033 G chord when I'm playing in the key of D. I don't use it in key of C or G that often, it just doesn't sound as full. Which A7 are you using,X02020 or X02223 ? Sometimes you just have grit your teeth and struggle for a while. Hang in there.
