I can't seem to get my fingers to stretch far enough and have trouble fretting the D string. Does anybody have any suggestions or finger exercises to help me out?

Are you having trouble getting the D string to sound off when you barre all 6 strings, or just getting it to sound in a chord with one finger fretting an individual note on the D string? (Did I ask that right?)

I stretch my fingers individually as well as my entire hand, forearm, and upper arm before playing, just to get loose. If not, the first half hour or so of your practice will just be spent getting limber. You can also do hand exercise with just about anything you can grip and squeeze. I'll just leave it at that... http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/think.gif

Still, there's no shortcut to good old fashioned hard work. Do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

CSimm,

Can you explain the trouble you are having a little more clearly? I can't figure out what you mean.
