Is it just me or is it dam hard to play while standing up?

I felt like all the lessons I have taken meant nothing!! I couldn't see the fretboard, therefore I am lost....

help.

It does take some getting used to. My advice- forget the notion that you have to have your axe strung down around your ankles and get that thing up where you can actually play it! Oh sure, Cobain looked cool, but Alex Lifeson (who darn near uses the thing for a chin rest) could blow his doors off!

LOL, SixString. A chin rest? Really? ROFL. This I gotta see.

I was referring to a concert video I saw a few years ago where he had his guitar strapped unusually high. (In fact I had never seen anyone play it that high.) So I figured I'd go find a good pic and post the URL for an example. Unfortunately all the pics I found looked like he was wearing it at a fairly normal height. Maybe I was hallucinating... http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/confused.gif

Too much coffee?
In actuality, I've seen players that cinched the strap close up. I use the same position sitting or standing. Seems to help.

In one of SD's lessons, he says to help you play standing up, put the guitar on your left leg instead of your right. I did this and it solved all my troubles. it helped soo immensly, it was nothing short from a miracle maker.

Too bad there isn't some trick like that in how to hold the piano. http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Well, my problem stems from the fact that at this stage, I have to look carefully at the strings as I play them. I do practice with the guitar resting on my left leg, but its tipped with the top edge towards me, so that I can see the strings. Obviously, when standing up, the guitar hangs straight, thus limiting my view of the fretboard.

I can only assume that as I get more practice, I will be able to feel my way around the board more consistently... I hope.

It does come easy after awhile. But I agree that the guitar has to be one of the most difficult instruments to play...unless you only want to "cowboy strum or do industrial thrashing with your guitar hanging down at your knees. *ducks and runs before thrashers thrash her.* http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/clown.gif

What you could do, is eat a whole bunch and get your torso a little larger than usual. then the guitar will stick out enough for you to see the board http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif

Yep... you gotta keep practicing 'till you get to the point where you are feeling the strings more than you are actually looking at the strings.
