Ive recently decided to play around with power chords.
Ive been having a lot of trouble with these which I find odd since a lot of people I talked to say this was the easiest for them. For some reason, I can never get them to sound right. I try to mute all the other strings except for the needed ones, but I still can hear them buzz a bit (or hear the plucking) when I strum. Also, stonedragon mentions to relax your hands and dont push down hard on the strings. However, when I am trying to play these chords, it seems I HAVE to push down hard to get everything right.

Anyone have any tips for me on how to play these "easy" chords?

Thanks

PS. Another offtopic question if your bored http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif. The show whose line is it anyway...really improvised or not?

It sounds like you're strumming all six strings. With power chords you should only be strumming the fretted notes.

Try putting your index finger on the E string at the 5th fret and your third finger on the A string at the 7th fret.

These two (the root and the 5) make up an A power chord. Just strum these two strings. If you want, you can put your pinky on the D string at the 7th fret for the octave A note and strum the top 3 strings.
