Here is a very powerful tool that can be used for notes, chords, scales, songs... anything... very quickly.
For learning the notes:
Without your guitar, visualize a scale pattern... see it in your mind as clearly as possible. Say the fret, finger and string you are starting on out loud. Say, "I'm starting with my middle finger on the low E-string at the 8th fret."
Then name the note you would be playing. Say, "That is the note C." If you don't know what note that is, then figure it out... in your head. Do not look at your guitar.
Now, Talk your way through the scale... all the way across to the high E.... "Now my pinky is playing the D note at the 10th fret of the Low E... My index is playing The E at the 7th fret on the A-string.... My middle finger is playing the F at the 8th fret on the A-string"
When you have gone all the way across the strings and back in your mind, then pick up your guitar and play the scale. Name the notes out loud as you play them.
Do this once a day, every day moving the same pattern to a different spot on the fingerboard.
Once you get good at this, you can include visualizing the note on the staff as well.
This works. You can learn anything you want in record time.... not just guitar notes... if you visualize it clearly in your mind.
It isn't easy... at first your mind will wander. You will find yourself thinking about anything and everything except what you are trying to think about. You'll want to give up before you get all the way through the scale. You'll feel stupid. You'll feel like going to sleep. You'll suddenly want to go get something to eat. You'll feel like you are wasting your time.
You've got to keep going if you want to train the mind to be clear. A clear mind can help you accomplish anything in short order.

Stonedragon,
i started doing that at the beginning and i learnt the notes straight away, now i know them off by heart. But as i started to learn the 5th and 6th strings i became lazy and just wanted to learn how to play the strings fluently instead of learning the whole thing.
So now i'm doing that and it really does work and really easy also.http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
