I don't really know how advanced anyone in here is but there are a few good patterns that are really good for improvising. It can be used in any key and is used in just about every Malmsteen song. start on E string(high) and go to the 10th fret..play 10 9 7 or D C# B then move to the B string and play 10 9 7 6 or A G# F# F...this pattern is then started again on the G string and is started at C# or 6 so C# D C# B or 6 7 6 4 and then to the D string...A G# F# F or 7 6 4 3 and then to the A string...D C# B or 5 4 2 and then finally E to A G# F# F and make a power chord or pop a harmonic out or something on F# the entire run should look like
10 9 7
10 9 7 6
7 6 4
7 6 4 3
5 4 2
5 4 2 1 ~2
Easy to improv on like
10 9 7 9 7 7 9 10 9 7 9 7 9 7
10 10 9 10
this is on the E and B string too...(continued)
7
10 9 10 9 7 10 9 7 6 9 7 6trill6 7 9 6 7 9
on B string still..10 7 9 10 12 9 10 12 14 and run with it
ya get the idea...
then throw an arpeggio in
A string...
over F#
9 14 9 - 14 17 14- 21 17 21 17
10 19
6 11 18~
7
9
this can easily be improved on and then end with maybe a harmonic bend on the G string at 9th postion (E)and bend to F#
This pattern sounds especially wicked over F#
Sounds cool if ya take it simple like...
10 9 8
9 7 6
7 6 4
6 4 3
5 4 2
4 2 1~
5 4
these are played on A-3 2,C,B
Then get into a cool riff over E and F# and A,B and C...works really well.
Work it all over the board and get a feel for it...have fun.
