Hello to all the members I know and to the ones I have yet to meet. I haven't posted for a while but I have been around. Checking in from time to time.

I'm not sure where to post this but quite a few people have asked me over the years how I do program my drum tracks. So, I wrote a bit of a tutorial explaining what I think are the most important ingredients and techniques to make natural sounding drum tracks.

Go here and click on the "Midi Drum Tutorial" link : http://www.glissandos.com

Any comments or requests for extra info are welcome. I can't promise I'll be able to update it quickly though.

I don't have time to read it all right now, but the first few paragraphs look very interesting. We're on the same wavelength in regards to fake drum sounds and the unnatural compositions forced by loops and drum machines. I'll look forward to reading more.

My own present solution is that I've learned (am and certainly still learning!) how to drum! Unfortunately, an acoustic kit won't work in my apartment living situation, so I'm using roland V-drums. Vdrums have come a long way from electronic drummings 80's origins, yet they still don't sound as real as samples. Some people get the best of both worlds by drumming on aVdrum kit and using that to access a sample library. I've done that a bit (twice) with good results, but I'm reading about much more extensive libraries than mine that are currently available. However, they take tons of memory and processing power and the field is still developing (all the kinks aren't worked out yet).

Unfortunately, i'm not a great drummer (though I have fun) and frequently think about (for recording) going to something like Fruity Loops and maybe triggering samples from that (if that's even possible).
