I met Steve Vai (on the VAI tour with Devond Townsend) at the towerrecords signing in London and asked him "if he was going to the guitar show?".....i felt like a right muppet!

I had only being queueing all afternoon...and that was the best i could do?

2#
I met Richie Kotzen Last year at the London guitar show and then realised i had accidentally pushed in the queue (didn't mean too  ) to be honest he's an amazing guitarist but he didn't care for signing his pictures......(never meet your idols ...as they say!)

3#
I was playing guitar at the London guitar show (first time i went) and Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden) was stood behind me having a chat...cool!

#4
The guitarist from "little angels" (remember them?) Bruce John Dickenson tuned up my guitar before a gig(red Ibanez rg550-560..steve vai style red with green pickups and knobs) and said "he had one like mine and it didnt need tuning!"

#5
Brian May walked passed me at a comedy show in London..called "Bottom Live"
(as if you could miss the hair!...it was HUGE!!)

That's it music wise...though i did meet (dont laugh) Margaret Thatcher,The Queen,..i met Harrison Ford on the set of "indiana jones-and the temple of doom!" whilst they where filming in Sri lanka!(the bit with the rope bridge)...and i openened the door for "gweneth Paltrow " coming out of Starbucks in Notting Hill last year!

Have a nice weeK! the sun is out i England finally!!!

My friend and I went to a Vinnie Moore show (Shotgun Messiah opened for him) and we went to the back of the club to try and get an autograph or something. A bouncer met us at the door and asked what the hell we were doing. We asked if Vinnie was in there (duh??) and if he had any picks we could have so he comes to the back door and hands us a couple of picks. It was cool, but I felt pretty stupid.

I have met Jeff Beck,Carlos Santanna, Jennifer Batten, Pino Paladino, and got Ritchie Blackmore's autograph....from the audience :D

Carlos was pretty weird,i asked him how he has gotten such GOOD tone ,and he went all 'the moon and sun talk to each other, and a flower opens in my heart and my fingers help it grow' ..................i was ummmmmmmm hum! ok then =)

Jeff was cool, a VERY humble man. Jennifer Batten is very sweet, she shot backstage footage on a camcorder and later sent me a tape of it.she also answered all of my Michael Jackson Questions.

We opened for Sammy Kershaw about two years ago,and i found it amusing he uses a teleprompter onstage. He was pretty cool, his band HATED him tho hahaahah. His tour manger was 2 seats away from where my wife was sitting, and my wife said very louldly "waht does he sing? i really dont know him" that earned her a withering glare haahahaha

My brother in law lives in Miami.amd we were going to the Liquor store at 3 am and Yngwie almost ran over us in his ferrari. he told us to 'get out of the F$%^in way! i flipped him off :D he has a HUGE mansion in Miami. what a bozo lol

i met metallica at a meet n greet thing at the download festival last time they played in scotland, and yes i made a complete tit of myself...

i was a huuuuuuuge metallica fan at the time and was just a little over excited about the whole thing. When eventually james hetfield appeared before me i couldnt help but ramble on like a loved up schoolgirl... after about 30 seconds of intense one sided chat i noticed a look of fear and confusion on his face. In my blind panic i couldnt think clearly enough to come up with a face saving exit strategy... so instead i asked him (in a voice teetering on the edge of insanity), "Doood! Can i see ure haaands!!!???"

Why lorrrrd!! why!!!???

The burly security guard that had been watching me closely for signs of a concealed weapon took a step forward, he wasnt taking any chances... anyway it all ended rather innocently and he gave me a few picks to subdue me... after that i wasnt really fazed by the other band members (chatted to lars about scottish accents which he was supposedly fascinated by), although i never got up the courage to tell them what i thought of st anger... maybe next time ehh

OMG!!! ive had this on my mind for everrrrr. I was 10 years old and i got special tickets to a NY Knicks basketball game. I happened to love Jay-Z since i loved rap at the time. So his catch phrase at the time was "Izzah" and i was madddd wiggerish(white acting black) so im standing next to him, as a scrawney little white kid in glasses, cheap knicks jersey, and im like, "excuse me, mr Z, i love your stuff!" and hes like, all nice," thanks kid!" i felt like a ******* idiot to tmy at-the-time idol!

I've met lots of my sports heroes: Julius Erving being the jewel in that crown.

Music-wise, I've met and talked with Vai, Stanley Jordan and Aerosmith. Not a lot of people are familiar with Glenn Kaiser, but I had him and the band over to my house for a BBQ. I've met lots of others but those are the ones I spent time actually talking with. Very cool. Too bad talent doesn't rub off. ;)

I've only had the good fortune to meet a few of my idols . . .

Malmsteen - could hardly get a word in edgewise, but when I did manage to ask him a few questions he was polite and knowledgeable. His ego was immense though, he very much put on a big "rock star" front . . . Luckily, he didn't unleash his "F****ng Fury" on me :)
Lemmy - a really great guy - very generous with his beers, too !
Ozzy - comes from my part of the world, and slipped into his Brummie accent as soon as he heard me and my mates speak. A fantastic guy. A lot shorter than I thought he'd be . .

Most of my idols are dead.
The closest I ever got was when I visited Jim Morrison's grave in Paris, France. I didn't say anything though. There were a bunch of weeping hippies standing around with candles and stuff. It was kind of silly.
I did meet Timothy Leary, and talked to him on the phone another time, but didn't say anything dumb. Other than that, no, I haven't met any of my idols, musical or otherwise.

I have not met my biggest influences...no.

The closest I have got is having Tony MacAlpine reply to 2-3 threads of mine in
his forums.

George Lynch e-mailed me once...mainly because I should have sent the e-mail to
his webmaster and not him.

Oh yeah....I did meet and hang out with Pantera during their "Projects in the Jungle Days".

I would love to meet T-Mac...Lynch...Malmsteen...Joe Satriani...

I met Steve Morse at a local music store and got to play his blue EB guitar that's seen in most of his pics, I also met Dave Larue who was with him. Morse was the nicest person, He was just like one of the guys but happened to be a guitar god. I met Neal Zaza he's cool but almost seems shy, I talked with him for about 30 min's about his style. I'd heard of him but had never heard him before then. I've talked to the Matt and Jose of ESP and asked him why they didn't make their 7 strings avaliable with 707's. Oh and I used to ride 4 wheelers with one of the guys in Juggernaught.

I just did the dumbest thing of my life tonight - took my 17 y.o. daughter to see Peter Cetera concert. She was hoping to get her picture with him...no such luck. Well, in the same building there is a larger venue (5000 seats) and the Black-Eyed Peas (a hiphop group) were also playing.

So here's where it gets bad - after waiting for Peter Cetera like an hour, we decide to go to the hotel lobby. There were a bunch of people milling around waiting for who knows what, when in stroll two members from the Black-Eyed Peas...no security guards, nothing. My daughter get's the nerve up to ask one of the guys if she can get her picture taken - he's like no problem. So I go to take a picture and push the wrong button - no flash - push it again..thought it worked. So he left. Then I realized that all I was doing is turning the camera on and off. Soooo..no picture.

Tonight, I hereby take title as the biggest moron on the face of the earth!!!

(My daughter was disappointed but didn't make me feel too guilty)

I met the keyboard player and bassist from Styx as an aftershow guest. The keyboard player is such a nice guy, and we just talked about Bristol and how much he likes this place (this was the first time they had revisited bristol in 7 years). I was a bit starstruck but held out a normal conversation with him.

I met Waylon Jennings in Vegas one year. This little country band I was in at the time was playin a lounge at Saharas. Waylons bus driver took me backstage to meet him, he was doing the big room. We went by all these people standing in line for a meet and greet. There's Waylon, the driver, and me all alone in his dressing room. He shakes my hand and he has a brace on. I said "what's that?" He says "I've got carpel tunnel, gotta wear it before every show" I said "my moms a big fan."

There's a room full of people including boxing celebs and Vegas entertainers waiting to meet him and I say "My mom's a big fan".....DOH!! He invitied me to hang in the wings for the show. During the show he gave me a huge smile. It was great!! What a stud.

Rob Halford used to set in with us in Pheonix, he hit on me once. I dont remember saying anything...I just kinda went blank. :rolleyD:

Met Billy Gibbons at my work last year when they were here (Kelowna Canada) I said Billy Gibbons right? he nodded I said can I shake your hand? he nodded we shook I said pleased to meet you he said in a southern drawl I'm very pleased to meet you. Had two tough guys with him and what appeared to be his lady (hot). The security boys got it on video from the ceiling cams. He had his African cap thing on and a simple black suit jacket and pants with some cool shirt and I think a Bolo deal around his neck. I went home and played ZZ that night! Though I wouldn't say he's an idol of mine or anything, it's hard to deny that Alice Cooper is a true classic.

He played here at the county fair a few weeks ago, but I didn't make it to his show.

10,000+ others did, however, and I guess the crowd scene was a real mess. The entire fair often has only 15,000 people per day--and NOT all at once! I heard the shuttle buses were backed up for hours.

But I would have gone if I could have gotten backstage passes, just so we could meet him and say, "We're Not Worthy!!! We're Not Worthy!!!"

Didn't happen, though. *sigh*

Oh yeah....I did meet and hang out with Pantera during their "Projects in the Jungle Days".

Hey, me too...

A friend of mine in my unit in the military was their ex-roadie from Texas (Marty Griffith was his name) anyway, he'd bought a guitar from Darrel awhile back...So, I had recently bought a guitar and was learning the basics in our barracks with Marty, well, Pantera comes to town and Marty says, "hey, you want to meet them?" I told him "hell yeah!"

So, they were doing a show at Virginia beaches "Peppermint Beach Club" for their Cowboys From Hell album...it was a great show, and afterwards, Marty walks up to their manager and says "what's Darrel up to"...the manager says, waiting for you guys...So, we go hang out in their tour bus with them and Darrel says "You want to hear the next album?" and I was pretty amped and said again "hellyeah!" to which they played "Mouth for War", I told Darrel it sounded awesome and he asked me how long I'd been playing, I told him a couple of months and he said, "you want to learn how to play that song?" I, once again, replied "hell yeah!" so, he tells me he'll stop by our barracks the next day and we'll have a jam with Marty and another friend of ours..and he taught me "mouth for war" and we jammed Metallica and Black Sabbath tunes all day long with 4 of us playing guitar....then we got drunk...

Darrel was an awesome, down to earth guy....

Not quite...I met the kid who played Zack in "school of rock"...he was in a guitar center with his band, his new cd, and giving out autographed posters of his band.
My sister's boyfriend's son loves that movie so I walked up (no line) and asked for an autograph.., he asked "buy a cd???" I said "no...the autograph is for my future nephew..." then feeling like I insulted him I said "I loved the movie though...it was 'cute'" (i did actually love the movie)
he rolled his eyes and signed the autographed poster...which I left sitting on top of a vox ac30...

turns out my future nephew had the cd and I listened to it...no wonder they had to hawk it at a GC!!

Man, you just confirmed a suspicion of mine. I knew a cat in the Navy who used to talk about his "days in Phoenix." He used to play in a band and kick it with Motley, Poison and other hair bands. This was in the 80's. Most important, he talked about hanging with Rob Halford in Phoenix and so on...I used to think he was full of poo because he really wasn't really all there mentally. I was once playing a lovely Gibson Les Paul Standard in a guitar shop.

I was attempting to play Black Dog, by the mighty Led Zep. Who should walk into the shop just as I totally muff the whole thing up....... Jimmy Page.

Said hello to him and he asked if he could try the guitar, played it for a couple of minutes, handed it back to me and asked me how long I'd been playing for and then said "Well play something then". Keep in mind that Page is the main reason I picked up the guitar in the first place AND I had only been playing for less than 6 months, so I wasn't very good.

It was kinda cool, but kinda embaressing at the same time.

3 of my brothers & my niece & I had aftershow passes for Tool on their Lateralus tour. Everybody with passes was herded into a room where we waited & waited & waited. After about 3hours about 90 percent of the people had left and we did too. Pretty disappointing but the show was spectacular.
One of my brothers did get to meet Ted Nugent at an airport in Michigan and told him he wondered what such a hot lady was doing with a guy like that til he realized who the guy was. Ted just laughed.

Me and 20 other guys rode our Harley’s to Nashville for vacation; well most of them were older guys, but 2 others, and I.
The older guys went to the grand old opreys, we didn’t want to go to that, so we just rode around we get to a Harley dealership and one guy says there is Travis Tritt so we mossy on up to him, he had about 10 guys with him and we all say hi shake hands he ask where we are from we tell him, and tell him about how our other group went to the Grand old Oprey and we didn’t want to go, we were looking for something to get into, he ask if we want to ride with him that he thought he could show us a good time, we ride for about a 1/2 hour get to Titan stadium (the first year it was built I think).

We ride up and this mob of people comes running up to the guardrail screaming and yelling (it was kind of scary). Well I have bored you long enough any way he took us to one of his consorts,
It was a farm aid concerts, we saw him, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Willie Nelson, and a few others I never heard of. I was into hard rock then, but liked older country like Waylon and Willie. I didn’t even know what Travis looked like. I didn’t say anything stupid and he wasn't an idol of mine but was a neat experience and I thank Mr. Tritt for that.

Oh I did get my picture taken with me on my bike and the Tennessee titan cheerleaders around me but my buddy had a camera with 50-year-old film in it and none of the pictures turned out.

id cry if i met john fruciante....

Funny you say that, I just met him a while back after a show in TO. He is such a good guy, really shy though until you mention his solo work, here's a sample of the convo:

Me: Hey, Mr. Frusciante!

J : Hello, how are you?

Me : Good man! Great show, you don't know how much we all love you guys.

J: Thanks....

Me: .........so, how about that Stadium Arcadium?

J: Yeah........how about it........

Me: ...........hey I just bought your album Inside of Emptiness, what guitar do you use for the solo on Look On?

John then goes into a 15 minute rant about all the guitars he used on that album, working with Omar Rodriguez and such.

didn't even bother asking for his auto.

Once I accidentally spilled my drink on Angus Young at a concert and he pinched my nose.

Not a music idol but I met John Lithgow (SP) from 3rd Rock, Shrek.... in a music store. He was buying strings for his son or something. My buddy who worked at the store and rang him up was on a first name familiar basis with him.

I saw Brian May at a NAMM show. My buddy and I were eating lunch and he walked by.

I'd used to really want to meet Eddie Van Halen, but he's not as friendly as he used to be, or so I've heard.

That makes me sad. :(
Darrel Abbot is my absolute favorite guitarist of all time, not just because of his skill, but because he was such a "Down to Earth guy." TOo bad I'll never get to meet him :(

I met Jim Marshall at a music show in Birmingham a few years ago - a very softly spoken, courteous, humble man. He's immensely proud of his products, and knows each and every one of them inside out.

I once met Huey Lewis in the Philly airport. Later I was sitting on the plane with the Hooters and found out it was Don Henley I'd met... this was during his short hair and sunglasses period, around 1986.

But the one that always comes to mind first was sitting in a bar in Santa Barbara watching Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan on harmonica and acoustic guitar. In comes some guy that looks kinda like George Thorogood and sits next to me. I turned to my girlfriend and said "Hey look, it's George Thorogood's little brother".
He sez "I AM George Thorogood". I said "Sure you are..."
Then Tom says on stage "Ladies and gentlemen a friend of ours is here and would like to do a few songs, Mr. George Thorogood, come on up". He took the stage and did 3 or 4 George songs.
When he came back down I bought him a beer. Here's a guy that sings about Johnny Walker, Bourbon, scotch, beer, Buddy Weiser etc... "Can I have a Miller Lite, please?" I was shocked!
He was very friendly and seems like a real nice guy.

I do have one picture from a celebrity encounter... in 1991 I sat in on harp with a band called The Rave-On's. The other band on the bill (okay, the main attraction) was Stray Cats. They did and fantastic show and were real friendly to all of us. Here's me and Brian Setzer.

About 10 or 11 years ago, back in my “Bar Scene” years, I had won 2 tickets to the Molson Canadian Blind Date. In a nutshell, about 1000 people from all over Canada were flown into Toronto to see a “?” band.

Pretty kewl experience really, 10 floors of the Hilton, all contest winners, 6 beer on ice in each room upon our arrival, open bar for a few hours before we were bused to the venue, which ended up being the Phoenix Club, with open bar there too, then another 6 beer on ice in each room when we returned. Needless to say… was the best freakin party of my life.

Anyways, to the point, Metallica was the band, and before hand me and the buddy I took along with me decided we would buy a cheap disposable camera to take in… if it got confiscated.. so be it.

So halfway through the night (and pretty blitzed at this point) I find myself at the bar beside the stage with 2 beers in my hand. The bar was literally set on the east end of the stage so you could see through the amps and gear right through to the stage. So in a moment of idiocy (cause there was humongous bouncers all around the stage and more so at this point) I put both beers in one hand, whip out the camera and take a quick snapshot.

Next thing I know, I got this huge bouncer on the other side of the guard rail point at me, and finger gesturing me to come to him. I was like “****”, so I humbly walk over to him and outstretch my hand with the camera to him with my head lowered. Next thing I know, this guy has me under the arms and is hoisting me over the guardrail… leans in and yells “you got 30 seconds!”

Totally shocked, I snap off 2 or 3 snap shots and I guess Kirk Hammett saw the flash, and mid tune turns to me and does a power stance pose while playing. I snapped off 2 more shots, and in flash without really thinking about it, raised 1 of the 2 beer to him, which he quickly snagged, took a gulp and tossed it with a wink and a nod turned and went back to face the crowd.

Not really a flub, but my one and only close contact of the Guitar God Kind. 

I met Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Phil Lesh, the guys from Moe., Bonnie Rait, Ben Folds, Cypress Hill, Damien Marley, and the Bela Fleck all in the same day at Bonaroo last year. I scored an "artist friend or family" pass from my friend's dad who is an executive of one of the promoting companies. I met Mike Gordon in the artist hang out tent, they had gibson custom shop acoustics sitting out and I was playing one. He came over and started playing along with me, at which point I was like "who is this guy" I started to get a little upset and then I looked at who it was and I fell backwards off the chair. He helped me up and said "thanks for the jam" and then walked away. Later, at the superjam, I got a picture with Phil lesh and Trey walked up. At this point, I was quite high and didn't know what to do. He was obviously high also or on some sort of painkiller, I was wearing a Phish shirt and he said "nice shirt" and then the two of them walked away. Other notable events include not realizing who Ben folds was and getting in the way of him going on stage, riding on a golf cart and giving my seat to Bonnie Rait, asking Damien Marley to smoke with us and him kindly refusing, and Cypress Hill doing the Rerun dance while freestyling at the artist party afterwards. Now I realize all this happened in two days, but it was by far the best two days of my life and i'm sure it will never happen again :(

I haven't met any famous people. But my father told me that he met John Lennon once, at a gas station here in Denmark. The town was called Fjerritslev. I don't remember the story exactly, but I think John was there because of some music school or something. Anyway, my dad had just been inside the shop, and when he walked out, he saw a car with toned windows. He went closer, and saw John Lennon sitting inside, with his wife.

He was so stunned that he just waved and left, haha. :P

I've been a couple of feet away from John Fogerty, but that's it.

My spousal unit and I went to see Fogerty a couple years ago. We were in the second row. He would occassionally toss a pick out into the audience. My wife tried to catch one so he threw to her a few times, but others would dive in and get it.
He actually stopped the music, walked over and handed her a pick personally then went back to playing. Mr Fogerty has been a major influence on me. I learned my earliest blues licks directly from Credence records (they were new at the time). It's nice to know he's a good person too.

My guitar teacher was telling me this story at a lesson a while back:

It was the late 70's early 80's (i think, it could've been their reunion tour idk), my teacher was out with some friends in downtown Milwaukee, WI, going to a Kiss concert. They went to the show and had a great time. However, my teacher spent a large portion of his money on I guess beer and food. They had backstage passes, so they went in, and my teacher was looking for a local bank's (called Tyme. its a small midwestern bank) ATM, often refered to as a "Tyme station, or Tyme machine". Anyway my teacher, backstage, saw Paul Stanley and Peter Criss, just hanging out. Trying to play it off all cool and not the usual "Oh my god mr____(insert famous person) I love your work, your so awesome etc." he asked him a "normal" question. From what he remembers it went something like "Hey Paul, do you know where the time machine is?". Now, Paul Stanley, not being from the Wisconsin/Northern Illinois area, and having no idea about the Tyme Bank, I guess he interpreted it that he was some sort of crazy fan looking for a time machine. He (teacher) remembers him just looking confused and walking off....the end.... :rolleye:
