Ok....so the work continues to build a guitar that will cost under a thousand dollars total and have the ultimate blues/rock mojo/sound/all around sweetness.

Heres the next upgrades:

The frets are getting ripped out and replaced with .25 "fretless wonders"

Both tone and vol pots are being replaced with 300K's to give it a good inbetween of 250K and 500K pots (if you recall, its got a strat single in the neck and a SD pearly gates in the bridge.

Then grover locking tuners.

pics with be coming as soon as I get it done.

The idea about the frets came to me after playing a friends '79 gretch BST100 (beast) it has the jumbo low profiles on it and they feel amazing.

Thoughts and opinions (good or bad) always welcome.

Oh....all the parts are already orderd.

So yeah....the frist time it was in the shop....a rolling nut, pups and labor (about 375)

This time (250 for refrettinhg, 5 bucks a pot, and new tuners will run me about 160{thats with install})

The guitar was origonally a 140 dollar epiphone that I throughly checked out....so total so far will be 765 once it gets back out of the shop. That leaves me 235 more dollars to play with.... any suggestions?

BTW:My friends dad plays blues. And he has a couple really awesome vintage strats and les puals. I brought my guitar over and he preferred it over his 65 strat. I felt giddy after he played it thrugh his blues special fender.

How about a coil tap for that Pearly Gates?

this is the origonal thread with sound clips and pics for those of you who havent see frankenpaul.

I have thought about a coil tap... but IF I do it, here is how it will be done (talked to the tech about it and he's iffy on doing it). Have a button for the coil tap instead of a switch... that way I can choose it on thruh all my settings or not.

Why can't you just put it as a push/pull in the knob closest to the bridge? (or any, for that matter, but it'd make it easier)

never thought of that....but now that you mention that, if I do it I will do it that way.
