i'm having a really tough time nailing the last part of the iron man riff in lesson 2. the part where you move back and forth between those two powercords . maby i'm not trying hard enough, but i've been at it for a while and i just can't nail it. are you supposed to lift your fingers completely and move to the other power chord, or do you just slide them back and forth. either way its been hell for me. is there a trick to it or does it just take a heck of a lot of practice?

Comet practice is it. Others here might give you some insight on technique. Tis some smart folk here. But here is something to think about. After you've practiced something like that riff and find yourself frustrated go away from it for awhile (couple days, week maybe) and work on some other stuff. Then when you go back to the riff that hung ya you might find you can nail it.

Just slide the fingers back and forth over the fret.
Keep at it.... you'll get it.

i dont think its wrong just a different way than i am used to, as long as it sounds good it works for me. this is how i play it
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
-------^---------^------^----------^----
-4/7--7/9--9/--12/10--12/10--12/7-7/9--9
-2/5--5/7--7/--10/ 9--10/ 9--10/5-5/7--7
----------------------------------------
^ over a slide means dont hit the slid to chord otherwise do. or just make it sound right because i might have made a mistake. and that really doesnt show the rythym but i think most people know it.

You're right on the slides. I left that part out, because I figured it would be a little too much for a beginner to worry about. I may end up revisiting that riff in a later lesson though... maybe the one that talks about slides hammers and pulls.
Also, I chose to tab it on the E and A strings, because that's the way Iommi actually plays the riff. He's made a point of that in several interviews. You can also see him playing it this way in that old Iron man video from the early '70s.
