So I got home from work Friday night around 7pm as usual. Just got relaxed and started warming up them fingers with a little Funk # 49... and I got a call.

The other guitar player in our band, Jerry...calls me up and asks what I'm doing. Not much I tell him.

"You wanna play tonight?!"

"What do you mean, where?"

"At the VFW!"

Well as it turns out, some Elvis impersonator was supposed to play that night and for whatever reason didn't so they called up a back up that plays there now and then. Jerry knows the bass player and he tells Jerry to call up the boys and lets play!

So I brought my trusty Strat and showed up, ended up playing during 2 different sets for a total of 8-9 songs. Did Folsom Prison, Cross Cut Saw, some standards, Pride & Joy, and some stuff I've never played before but I was in the pocket the whole time, playing and singing sometimes both at the same time. I'm stoked because aside from Guitarmageddon earlier this year I haven't been on a stage for about 8 months and I've succeeded in squashiing all the 'problems' with my playing since then.

I'm happy, and had a blast! :drunk: :toohappy:  :D

Thanks guys! They dug it, even the older folks. One guy kept asking me if I'm any good, or better than the guy in the band. The guys at our table including my other guitarist, Jerry, kept saying oh yeah!... I was like... meh, I do what I do. If you like it, cool, if not... bummer. :) Nah but it was nice to see all my practice making a HUGE difference.

The one down here in CR, right on the BLVD. We've got 4 'real' gigs coming up later this summer, a BBQ, Birthday/Housewarming for my buddy, another 'kegger', and another surprise gig. Details are TBD at this point so I'll just wait until I know more.

Just wondering, what's a VFW?

VFW = Veterans of Foreign Wars. It's a semi-private club for retired military vets, and locals. Anyone can go to one, but you sign in and it's usually pretty low key. No wacko's tho.

Been there a few times to see a couple of different bands. Not a bad lil place.
