Well, been out of guitars (and this forum) for some time. My dad just bought a Martin OM-28V today (he's a mandolin player). I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now, on and off. I broke my Gibson Songwriter Deluxe a while back. Actually, someone else broke it. I wont go into details. The headstock got snapped, it was fixed, but you can still see the line where it was broken, as well as feel it. My question is how much would it cost to make it look new again, or as close as it can be?
Thanks for any advice. I tried attaching pictures, but it didn't work.

Use photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/) to host your pics...It's difficult to assess the type of damage without seeing.

If you can see and feel the join where it broke, the repair job was done at the expense of aesthetics. Where was the snap? What glue was used?

I am asking those questions due to the fact that if you were not happy with the fix, then it is quite likely the glue needs softening, the headstock taken apart and re-glued again to align the cracks and possible re-fill with a wood filler to make it as smooth as possible.

if it is a purely cosmetic issue (you don't mind the scars) and the join is sound and strong, then don't worry about it.

Is it painted or natural??? I'm not up on all of my Gibson models (sorry). If its painted, it wouldn't cost a whole lot I'd think. Shop around. Don't settle on the first price someone gives you.
