Okay i am trying to get a custom paint job on my guitar. I have been having a lotta trouble finding the services for this. Everybody reccommends looking locally but i have tried everything within 400 miles and nobody knows where to go. I've tried online and i found one place but they have not yet emailed me back. So if anybody here knows where to go or knows how to do it themselves and are willing to offer their services i would greatly appreciate it.

where do you live.. if you lived near me i could tell you a few locations..

if you get the right paints and do it right(not to mention have the artistic ability) you could probably pull of a good custom job yourself.

but makes sure you remove the hardware and put painters tape over things you don't want to get paint on... maybe experiment on an old or cheap guitar...you can borrow mine if you'd like :D

well i can tell you what i know.. i renevate houses so i've gained some knowledge of painting technique...

...sand down where you are painting(probably the body), until it is smooth and completely naked of paint.

....tape or cover areas you don't want to paint or accidentally get paint on

..primer coat, possibly two coats. the colour of the primer should be based on what you are painting. like white primer would be suitable for a white guitar,or a light coloured paint job.

...paint your custom work. i recommend you use spray paint for a smooth look, but feel free to whip out the brush if it gets your rocks off... consider making a stencil for detailed work.. don't use cheap paint.

.... you shouldn't need a second paint coat, but add one if your paintjob isn't bold or thick enough for your liking.

....now finish coat for that shiny look. make sure it goes on light and smooth just as with paint so you don't have clear drips.

.. and as i stated before you may want to practice painting a cheap guitar(mine is still up for grabs :p ) before you make a mess all over your new Gibson LP......

good luck, and i hope my dumbfounded advice is helpful.

Either follow the good advice above or try a car painter. it could be a handy little lunch break project.

I painted one of my strats with hammerite. it's exterior metal paint that dries dimpled. I LOVE how it turned out!!!!!
