Ok, i want to paint my future project guitar, and it's going to be one of a kind, ok so, you know how some cars are painted so that when you look at them at different angles, the colors change. hopefully everyone understands what i mean. how exactly would i do this for a guitar? what kind of paint would i need? and should i use a airbrush? all help is greatly appreciated.

lol you would have to buy special paint. I know at least for cars anyway, the paint that changes color in light is about 1,000$ US per pint!!! Im not lying...check here:

Nicest computers in the world. Clock "Desktops" and then "Mach V", and then click "custom painting" on the right hand nav. bar. Considering the base price of their top computer, with just basic paint, and not even all the available option is like 10,000$ US...A top of the line system from them is like 20,000$ LOOL crazy. But you would have like the world's best computer...bragging rights!

!!! that'd be why it'll be one of a kind, it's to expensive! any other ways it could be done, of course it'd have to be alot cheaper.

The other option could be two pack paint with say, red base coat & yellow topcoat to get the Fast & the furious car paint look.......

Yeah that would be one way...good idea martinedwards! Or do a black and then a cherry red topcoat...lool that would be awesome. Better yet strip it down to the wood and leave it. better tone...

how i was thinking was, ike put down a primer/base color then put on one color, and then a layer of gloss, then another color, then put on the finish layer thingy

You could also do a holoflash finish.

It's on there somewhere. Holoflash isn't the same as what you're talking about, but you might like it.
Here's the whole finishing section so you can see some other options as well:

that is pretty sweet Etingi, i may try that... Etingi wins lol, i'm going to do the holoflash, i'd definately be the only one around here with one.
ok, see if this sounds right.,.. i paint a base/primer, then i put on the holographic material, right... and paint it a color, and i use acetone to havet the holographic material to bleed through, then i give it 3 single coats of clear, use 400 grit to even out the surface? is that what that's for? then 3 more coats of clear, grit with 800, then 3 more coats of clear, then grit with 1000, then 3 more coats of clear, then grit with 1200? then what's after that?

I'd pay somebody to do it for you - if you're going with something that complicated as a D.I.Y. job you'll probably end up paying twice for the materials and whatever your nearest helpful soul charges to have it put right afterwards anyway ;).

i had my guitar painted with irridescent paint. it only cost me about £50 more than regular paint would have.

well, i don't know anyone here that could do it. it'd be easier to do it myself.

Thats kinda the problem i have right now is that nobody around here does it so i would have to find somewhere online which i've had no luck or do it myself which i dont wanna cuz i have no experience with anything like that. Do you have any experiece with painting a guitar. Especially trying to do something that elaborate. Thats a lotta money to be chancing on if you screw up and have to redo the whole thing.

I also think the $1000 a pint for iridescent paint is a bit of a misquote. I recall seeing a 1992 ford tempo painted with it... I don't think anyone's going to drop $50,000 on that...
