Hey

Does anyone know where on the net i can get some flame inlays or a flame inlayed fretboard that is un fretted?

right all of these want ridiculous sums of money and some a fretboard ontop of that.

so how hard would it be to do this myself?

If you don't have a mentor or teacher, I would say its out of your range. You could buy a fretboard pre-slotted from Stewmac and try to find some flame decals. You would have to put on the fretboard, trim the edges, sand it smooth and then put the decals on. Then you'd have to very carefully install frets (I'd suggest using a press rather then the hammer method) and then do several layers of clear-coat on top. With Heavy playing, you might wear through the finish, like on old maple strats, but its easier than paying $400
