So, we all have profiles... most of us have posted on the post your pic thread. However, Im sure... most of us (especially myself) are far too lazy to go through and find the stuff when we want to know about someone. So... I say... Who are you? Tell us a bit about yourself. Include your picture if you want.

Oh, and a pic of your main guitar(s).

Im Brandon. Im 15 and live in Florida. I love playing guitar and chillin' with my homies. I love most music. I'll listen to just about anything accept for Jazz, rap or Emo music. Im a bit in the crazy side... but hey, aren't we all?

My main guitars are my Jay Jr. and my Ventura.

Um, HB.. That really is lazy. All you have to do is right click on the name and select open in new window. That's quicker than re-typing everything in a thread, don't ya think?

I am 19 years old and this thread is handy cuz I dont have anything in my profile really. Guitar wise I've played about everyday for almost three years. I Currently alternate between a fender squire(someday just fender) strat and a bc rich beast. Bass wise I play a fender coronado bass 2. Outside of guitar I own my own internet business and plan on retiring at 21 to a life of freedom and as many amps/guitars as I see fit. Peace

I'm 18 years old, from Welland, Ontario, but now living in Toronto. i'm going to college here for graphic design. i'd like to think i'm a really nice guy.

guitars are my life... anybody who knows me would say i'm completely obsessed- sometimes in a bad way... but i hope to someday be amazing at guitar, and just have people hear and see me play and say "wow". (I want to get over this thing I have when someone says im really good and i say "i suck") I love helping people, whether its guitar related or not. I also want to be in a good metal band someday, maybe tour if i have no other commitments. I'm into thrash metal, lots of oldschool metal (Maiden, Metallica, Blaksmith, etc) and i draw alot from neoclassical influences also.

I can be seen in music stores playing various guitars for hours on end.
(sometimes basically "selling" and advising customers about gear, because they think i work there or something because im there so much haha)

I really want to start advancing my playing more, dedicating my life to it.

I'm older than BMGSkulk...I'd post a picture, but they didn't have cameras or computers when I was young enough to sit still long enough for a picture. Even if I could, though, now, I'm just plain ugly and people would laugh....besides that, I'm short, fat and and my mama dresses me funny.

The playing: It's all fine, not doing that much progress atm, too much school and a life beside that:) The last couple of months has been very hectic. 'Started on a new school in August. I think it's like the same as High School for you US's:p I get up 6pm, school starts at 8pm, and I'm not home until 4am:rolleye: I try to play as much as I can, but there is some days I just don't have the time:( I have comed to the point of learning were I just can't practise songs anymore, I have to learn some scales too:p I know the blues scales. Next would be my righthand pinky and my speed('disposable heroes is fast! ) ;)

So, 'guess that's it Hellz, god you're lazy:D

I'm 26 and from South Texas. I've been playing guitar for about a year. Not as advanced as I should be, but balancing time between a 55 hour per week job, a wife and three kids, and being the vocalists for my band doesn't leave much for needed practice time. I've gotten better though - trying to squeeze in a hour or less after work everyday. But the bad thing is, it's mainly learning chords so I can play along to the songs I sing in the band. I've just begun to practice scales. One day I'll be kickin arse on vocals and playing leads like Keith Urban or Brad Paisley (those are country dudes, if you don't already know).

Real name is Erik, I was born, raised, and live in Coon Rapids, MN. 29 next month, all I do is think about the next thing I can accomplish with this wonderful instrument(guitar). I don't take crap from anyone, but I'm learning how to be nicer without being taken advantage of.

I'm 39, have 2 young sons, a wife, a house, a dog, a cat, and a Strat. And a Teisco Super Crap.
I was born and grew up in Alaska, have lived in Seattle and Portland, but now live in Montana. My job is system admin/programmer/analyst type... and I spend a fair bit of time online. Most of my time is spent working and raising my kids, but I try to practice guitar at least every other day, but usually more often. I started last January. So not quite a year yet. Ideally I'd like to develop a Gilmour/Hendrix/Surfy blend sound.

Wow, so many old people here :p
I'm Islam, 15, I've been playing for a few months, I live in illinois, and both my parents are from egypt, I learn in the daytime, and in the night I sleep, I'm "good with computers", and I did martial arts for a few years... I'm the last of six kids, so I get lotsa neat stuff from my siblings, like one of my bros is lending me & me other bro his acoustic and a peavey 65 bass amp, which is pretty big... I play a fernandes le-1 (which I read is made to the specs as an original strat (fernandes made the fender strats in japan)), its probably as old as me... and I play it on eithier the bass amp, or an orange roland cube-20 (which is older then me!)
You can hit me up on aim (zudo9) from time to time if you wanna talk, yep.

Im 17, soon to be 18.

I go to college 5 days a week studying Sociology, Product Design and Geography.

I've played guitar for about 8 years. im not the most serious player but i enjoy learning new skills and new songs.

I play in a classic rock band as shared lead with a friend. we play songs with a more metal feel to them, but still trying to keep the beauty of the classic rock sound.

My main influence for a long time was Kirk Hammett, untill my musical tastes broadened. Now my influences include John Petrucci, SRV, Gary Moore and Steve Morse.

These are pics of my guitars. the Charvel is my pride and joy.

Yea misfit, when someone complements you just say "thanks, I working on getting even better".

Good advice, Misfit, When they say Wow! and you say, "I suck." you're essentially challenging their ability to recognize musical (or any other) ability or talent. Learning to accept praise, graciously, without appearing conceited is sometimes a challenge, but it'll sure be worth it in the long run. Another way to say it is: Wow! You think so....I really appreciate that, man!

I've just begun to practice scales. One day I'll be kickin arse on vocals and playing leads like Keith Urban or Brad Paisley (those are country dudes, if you don't already know).

Keep those priorities.......it's hard, but those kids won't aways be little and you won't always have a job.....hope you keep the wife. Good luck on making the best use of your time while it's stretched so thin.

Wow, Socialmisfit, we have so much in common. :)

I'm 18 years old, from Welland, Ontario, but now living in Toronto. i'm going to kill here for graphic fun. i'd like to think i'm a really evil girl.

Knifes are my life... anybody who knows me would say i'm completely obsessed- sometimes in a bad way... but i hope to someday be amazing at stabbing, and just have people hear and see me stab and say "wow". (I want to get over this thing I have when someone says im really good and i say "i suck") I love helping people, whether its knife related or not. I also want to be in a good cell someday, maybe tour with a circus if i have no other commitments. I'm into thrash stabbing, lots of oldschool knifes(swords, rapiers, Rambo knifes, etc) and I draw alot from my victims veins also.

I can be seen in Knife stores playing with various knifes for hours on end.
(sometimes basically "selling" and advising customers about knifes, because they think i work there or something because im there so much haha)

I really want to start advancing my stabbing more, dedicating my life to it.

I'm Shane, and I live in Utah. I'm a mailman by day, and I teach guitar one night a week. I don't perform much at all--I'm not really that good and I don't have the time to get with a bunch of guys and practice, not right now really with just struggling to make ends meet. I hope to get into some kind of band again--maybe bluegrass or rock. I was going to add a picture, but for some reason today, this site is loading really really slowly on my computer. It's probably the comp. I've had trouble the last few days, finally got rid of a virus, and in the process had to get rid of all my optimized settings. Ah, such is life!

Just kidding,

I am a royal marine comando, I have under 156,110,210 kills next to my belt, I have rescued more POW'S than John Rambo. I have taken out tanks with my teeth and helicopters with toothpicks. I earned the highest attainable rank in the British army "Killbot master". I was once asked to assainate the Queen, but I refused and killed the entire british army with my newly installed laser eyes and a collection of unwanted 12 inch singles. I am now living a life of solitude inside the internet after I chose to leave my mortal body whilst high on crack and waffles.

I'm neither snake charmer nor killing machine. Rather, I'm a software engineer and play music for fun, not profit. I spend more on gear than I earn gigging.

I'm a keyboard player with more guitars than keyboards -- after all guitars are not only a lot more fun, they look a lot nicer hung on the wall.

These days I mostly play blues since I'm in a blues band and also frequent the local jam (I bring the keyboards; if there's no guitarist or bass player for the first set I cover that). But I like most styles of music when done well. (I can't bear listening to country radio, but there are a lot of great country tunes and I enjoy doing country piano tracks.) I'd like to play jazz, but ...

From best to worst, I play acoustic (steel & classical, picked and finger picking, and alternate tunings), electric (mostly single coil), and bass (when there isn't a real bass player, or for my recordings).

I do quite a bit of recording, my own stuff and tracks for others usually over the internet, and just for fun. You can check out my music at my website below. Also, I get a kick out of creating backing tracks (originals and covers) for soloist to shred. Generally on the lighter side, my heavy metal days were over decades ago.

I posted a couple jam tracks on the Showcase thread for anyone who wants to do some jamming; a Jeff Beck cover and an original blues tune.

Cheers
Jeff

My name's Derek, I'm 22, and I'm probably a lower-intermediate-level guitar player who's recently been spending a ton of time playing. I am entirely self-taught, though I did have a few months of bass lessons, and 10+ years of viola lessons, and I've spent more time in professional symphonies than in bands.

I play with a modern hard rock-style band called Beyond Fate (http://www.myspace.com/beyondfateband)), but modern metal is my first love. Once the sounds of early In Flames, At The Gates, etc. caught my ears, I was hooked.

I play a Fender Strat and a no-brand POS and will soon be the proud owner of a Schecter C1+. Also play a Fender Precision bass, as little as I have to. Not that I'm bad, I just prefer the 6-string.

I'm 18 years old and live in the UK. I was born to a Finnish mother and English father. I lived in South Norwood, Crystal Palace, London until I was 3. Then I moved to Coulsdon, Surrey until I was 14. Next I moved to Portishead, Bristol until I was 18.

During my time in Portishead I formed a band which lasted nearly 3 years and achieved a little commercial success. We got through 3 singers and moved through many styles until settling for indie/prog (like Interpol). Highlights were headlining a festival, supporting a touring US band, having our EP paid for, being interviewed for the radio and having our songs played on local stations.

In September this year I moved to Edgbaston, Birmingham to study Civil Engineering and Vehicular Engineering at Birmingham University. A new jam band is to be formed.

I'm keen on Music, Skiing and Travel. I travel a lot. I've spent about 55 weeks in Finland in my life, and have visited a lot of countries around Europe (but have never left Europe). I've skied for 8 years. I've played guitar for 5 years, bass for 2 years and keyboard for 7 years.

My favourite styles of music are Progressive, Psychedelic, Ambient, Jazz (all disciplines), Blues (all), Country (all), Metal, Classic Rock, Easy Listening, Electronica, Space Rock, Old Skool Punk, Folk, Swing, Ska and Classical. My favourite bands are Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Dire Straits, Dream Theater, King Crimson and many more.

Im 34 years old and been playing guitar for 7 weeks (LOL).

Never really heard music until I was about 15.
Then a "fun" little story. I believed I was strange that I didnt heard any music and wanted to become "hip". Didnt know what music to begin with. My bigsister and a couple of her friends often mentioned Pink Floyd. So I believed they were a monster hit band that just made super pop songs. Got The Wall and put it on my sisters record player.
What I heard made may head go "!???! ?!?! !??? ??!!??? ??". There were no songs on it that were anything interesting. No pop songs at all???
Said to myself that maybe I should listen to it a couple more times and then I would maybe find something interesting on the record. I mean....a band so big that even I had heard about it had to have something interesting in their music. So I heard it again. Suddenly I found that Comfortably numb was pretty good and that the solo was good too.
LOL. The rest is history. Pink Floyd became my number 1 band forever and I found out that Gilmour played guitar in such a way that to me no other guitarist could ever be better.

Really wanted to play myself. But didnt believed in myself. Could not sing in tune. Bad micro coordination in my muscle movements. I bad sense of rythm. But my mom gave an accustic guitar as a present. Gave it a try. Didnt work at all. Today I know why it didnt work. Never used any metronome and the book or tape lessons avaliable back then were mostly crap compared with todays DVDs, internet lessons, guitar forums etc. The crap lessons could not detailed enough explaine what good and bad habbits were and the playing without a metronome made me play all over the place and not improving at all.
Gave up playing guitar.
Still loved music and still loved guitar.
The next 15 years I never touched a guitar.
Then one day I said to myself "The thing you want the most in the world is to play fantastic guitar......You have to give it a try".
So I did.
Now I have played for 7 weeks. Taking the lessons from this site, asking questions in JS if there is something Im not sure about, alsom using a DVD (Fender Presents: Getting started on the electric guitar) and 95 % of the time playing with a metronome.
All that helped.....a LOT. Im progressing at a pace I wouldnt have belived possible for 3 months ago.

So what is my goal?

Well I can brake it down to several goals.
1. First to be comfortably with the guitar and being able to play it at a descent level.

2. Second to play in a band "just for fun". I mean just playing covers, jamming around, practice etc.

3. Thirdly to develop my own style. That is a huge one. And I know where i want to go. The basics in my style should be something like Gilmour when playing "softer" and Slash when playing "harder". Then putting some good stuff of Jeff Becks style when hes playing rock, blues, pop and then maybe a bit (important here is BIT....only here and there not all the time) shred like Petrucci, Friedmann, Hammet and stuff like that. Of cause all this combined in such a way that it is me who is playing and not just copying of those players style.

4. Then lastly the biggest one. Making my own music or at least playing in a band creative and skilled enough to make their own music. What Im going for is a bit hard to explain. Like I dont want to copy another guitarist Im in no way interested in copying any band. I want to make my own kind of music. But to give a hint about approximately what Im thinking of then it should be a combination of
i) Think of Britpop when it is super. Think of Verves Urban Hymns, Suedes Dog Man Star and Coldplays Parashute. Then add the space, size and sound of a Pink Floydian approach to it. Imagine - as an example - Gilmour being transponted from 1965 to 2000 and then you said to him "Coldplay is the band you are the lead guitarist in". Then let Gilmour develop his style with Coldplay and not with Waters, Wright and Nason. That is close to what im thinking of.
ii) Think grunge, neo-grunge, EMO. Take bands like Peal Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Live and then add Slash to the formula. Here we are over in moody, dark, hard rock playing but with the sparks and energy from classic heavy metal though leadplaying like Slash, Hammet, Friedman.

That is what im looking at (LOL).
BTW: It sounds like I only is focusing on the lead guitar. That is not tru. Its just easier (I think) to explain ones goals in the lead than in the rythm. But I desire to be good at both the lead and rythm playing.

Its true when i was like 12...
Slash saved me from that :D
My name is Anibal, i live in Peru (South America), im 19. been playing for almost 3 years, i go to law school here. aaaaaanndd love to play basketball too, almost as much as i enjoy to play guitar.
My first gear was a crappy stratocaster copy and a BASS amp. I learned what i know (not much) from internet sites, i dont know almost ANYTHING about music theory (that sucks).
My goal was to play Sweet Child o Mine, i can play it decently now, so my new goal is to play the solo of Get The Funk Out, of Extreme :D
What else, what else...People often think im a skater or hip hoper cause i dont really have any band shirts, or wear that cliche rocker clothes..and sometimes i do look like a skater or wear some basketball shoes and stuff like that... but i dont care, im a guitar lover, so thats what matters :D
OOOh and that Spice Girl issue was real, i did listen to that, still like some songs :drunk:

Hey, I'm Jordan. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska where I major in computer science. I've been playing guitar for about 4 years (first 2 of which i averaged 2-3 hours a day) and play about an hour a day of guitar. I've got a hohner birmingham electric, Fender Jagstang and a Cort acoustic. I've also got a digitec GNX3 that i love to death. Bands I play in are mostly fast paced grunge/punk bands with a hint of emo (not much though). I also write a lot of acoustic songs which never really fit into one category of music. I'm also looking to start a techno/effects band (like the Faint) this summer with my best friend and roomate.

Hey, I'm Maya from Lincoln, Nebraska. I'm new here too... been reading threads and stuff for a while though. I'm completely new to guitar- I've played an acoustic a couple times, but you DON'T want to know how that went :p I just bought myself an electric a couple days ago, so I'm hoping with some practice, I'll be atleast halfway decent. I listen to a lot of blues and rock, and some heavy metal.

Well since I first started posting on this forum and I never introduced myself, here I go. . .

My name is Garrett and I live in a small town outside of Kinston, NC called Deep Run. I have 4 more classes before I graduate with a associates in Computer Programming. Transfer? Who knows, Im so sick of school. I work full time for a trucking company in accounting. Some of my hobbies include Riding my ATV, playing the guitar(playing 2 months now), and drinking beer with my buds. My favorite genre of music is classic rock and country. #1 Favorite is the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. I love Ronnie Van Zant's vocals and the sound of Allen Collin's Gibson Firebird. Hmmm thats about it.

I am totally new to the forum thing, so you'll have to be patient. I'm 27 years old and I live just outside of Montreal. I found a renewed interest in guitar 6 months ago after my grandmother passed away, and while cleaning out her things we found an old tape of her and my grandfather playing in their band. It's a real treasure, and I decided to learn as much as I could so I could honour them. Now I can't learn things fast enough. I want to learn as much blues/rock as possible!

Amanda, you are awesome! A female that doesn't listen to rap or hip-hop is just plain awesome. I cannot stand when I hear rap blairing from a car/truck window. 99% of the girls I know listen to that crap and I despise it. It's not music. Sorry if I offended anyone. I hope I didn't since this is a "guitar" forum lol. By the way, thanks zappatude!

Yeah mate, you need to believe it for it to happen.. After a dangerous accident at work, SRV decided when he was 12 years old that he was going to be a professional guitarist - and that's what he became. I think a lot of us feel the same way you do.. I'm 23 years old. I've worked as a computer technician for the last 5 years and am now leaving this job to drive a truck in a mine in Western Australia for three-times my current salary. But I also want to play guitar for a living.. Will I? Who knows. But if I don't give it a shot, the answer is no, I won't. It's the same deal for all of us. The silly thing is, I know that a large pay-cheque is not going to make me happy in the long run, whereas playing guitar for a living will, but I, alike most people, don't have the gutz to go for it.

Doak.

Hopefully, this'll be a fun place to get tips and meet people.

Hi all, I'm Ryan, 31, from NJ. Been playing for about 12 years. No professional training, basically taught myself from OLGA tabs (when it was still in it's infancy).

Mechanical engineer by trade, graduate of PSU (hence the "joepa" nickname). Huge fan of college football, in case anyone wants to trash talk.:D

Currently playing an Alvarez 12-string that spends its life as a 6-string. Mostly a classic rock guy, and a huge Steely Dan fan. Happy to find a place to talk a little music, etc.

My real name is Tony Canova, strong deviation from my site name of tcanova(never been very creative with screen names). I'm 38 with a wife and 3 kids. Been playing since I was 10, played in many bands and for a year, and don't laugh, I was lead guitarist for a cast of Up with People. Pretty cheesey but hey I played some of the coolest venues and in front of many people. The past few years I have been playing and singing for my church choir. My guitars are a Takamine that I got when I was 12, a Martin DC Aura, a National resonator, Gibson ES165, some Sigma guitar I won in a contest, a Dean resonator and a Leo Fender Banjo. I like pretty much ever genre of music save for industrial, I guess I just never did enough drugs for that style. Haven't been a member here long but I have enjoyed all that this site has to offer!

I'm 24, in the IT field and picked up guitar after finally convincing myself that yes, yes I can do stuff when I put my mind to it. 3 weeks in I can play two songs in entirety (thanks to easy solos - "Gyoza" by Shonen Knife and "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd) and I'm going through the Stone Dragon lessons, as they seem more complete and comprehensive than some of the paid programs.

I have a Fernandes Dragonfly I got used... not really what I'm looking for style wise but it's a great learning guitar. Eventually I want to get an ESP like my guitar heros: Mana, Aya, and Ko-zi.

I'm big into Visual Kei, but I also like bands like They Might Be Giants, Green Day, old school punk, Ska... and even dabble in hip hop as long as it's Nerdcore. Nothing like rap about Commodore 64's and not being able to pick up Goth Chicks to really feel like the song's about you :D

Most of my free time is spent teaching my sons , a 22 year old who raps and plays a bit , an 18 year old who has a brilliantly weird finger-picking style that has to be seen to be believed , a 15 year old drummer ( one of the most naturally talented I've ever seen) and a 13 year old shred-meister who will leave us all in the dust. Hello everyone.

I'm Andrew, I'm 21, and I just recently decided to take up the guitar. So recently in-fact I havn't even bought one yet!

I go to Northern Arizona University in..... Arizona. I like pretty much all types of music, some more than others though. Real punk and classic rock are on the top of the list however. I'm a business marketing major. Uhh.... and as you can tell by my user name I'm a big Dallas Cowboys fan.

Anyways, I'll probably be spending most of my time here in the "Getting Started" forum, that is untill I learn how to play a little!

I'm from Karachi, Pakistan and but living in Houston TX.

Used to play the guitar in school - but as I close in on 30 I got the distinct feeling that life was running out and I better do things that I love. Hence I'm going back to the guitar.

Its kinda frustrating - my fingers won't do what they used to easily do in college. But hey - it'll take a while and it'll all (hopefully) come back. :)

I've got a Cayenne Red Gibson Les Paul Standard (2005 with 60s neck) and a Line 6 Flextone III. It's a modeling amp but its pretty good, definitely better than the Spiders.

Peace.

Hi i'm Kenny. I work at power plants around the US as a nuclear technician. It's seasonal work (spring & fall) so i have alot of free time to play guitar.I've owned guitars since i was a college freshman but only just recently got serious about playing/learning. I'm mostly practicing scales at the moment but i do need to start concentrating on complete songs. When i'm not playing my guitar i'm listening to music (mostly southern rock at the moment. Before that it was blues/blues rock.) My guitars are an Epi LP and a Ibanez acoustic played thru a Vox Valvetronix. Oh yeah, I'm 60 years young...lol
