StoneDragon,
Just a quick question,
I've been playing guitar by ear since
I was 15.(I'm 33 now) I've wanted to
really get serious and learn all that
I can about playing the guitar for some
time now. After looking at some of your
lessons I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.
My question is, after 18 years of bad
habits, and poor technique, do you think
that I can be saved?
I REALLY, REALLY want to LEARN!
Thanx

I REALLY, REALLY want to LEARN!
That says it all to me. You can't fail.
The real problem that you will most likely find is frustration.... frustration in the fact that you already know how to play, but are pretty much having to start at the beginning again.
What I suggest is that you avoid throwing away what you already know in favor of this "new" stuff. Instead, try to incorporate the new stuff into what you already know. There may be certain things like hand position or picking technique that needs to change for certain things, but think of that as learning a new chord and having to develop the finger coordination to grab that new chord in the middle of a song.
Take the theory one piece at a time. Really work with it and try to understand how it fits into the bigger picture. And try to incorporate every new piece that you learn into stuff you already play.
This is just the next phase of your movement forward, not a step backward.

Thanks for the reply!
You've boosted my confidence to a new
level! I really thought that I was going
to have to "forget" what I already knew
and completely start from scratch. What
a relief! Now I can't wait to get started!
So, I will start the lessons tomorrow.
I know that frustration is enevitable,
but I have a remedy for that.. A burning
desire to LEARN!
Thanks in advance for the lessons! You'll
be hearing from me again soon. I'm sure
I'll have lots of questions.
Wish me luck!
