Hey yall. Names Derrick. Totaly new to music and found this site
in the hopes to help me along the way. I myself am 21, outgoing,
pretty much a rock lover and a car guy. Trying to fix my car's
blown up motor at the moment. Imports.. And yep I still live in
my parents basement.lol How cool is that. haha. Single at the
moment but always looking. Im working in autobody repair and still
learning the ropes. I like to work with my hands and love cars so
I enjoy it for the most part. Raised alot of hell awhile back and
almost took the ticket to the military. Ive always thought about
joining but I dont know what to think of where we sit in the world
and if it would be the right thing for me to do. I do support our
troops and say they are a godsent. People in thoughs war torn parts
of the world are pretty crazy acting yet they still want peace.
I think that if somone doesnt make things right that it will only
get worse. I do wish we had more support in our quest IF that is our
true goal. But yeah I am a pretty average guy I guess. I have always
been in love with the sound of music and feelings it gives. I have
always been intrested in it one way or another. Not a big concert
craver but I havent been to good one either. Listen to tunes all the
time though and have always wanted a crack at learning. It all looks
so complicated and confusing though and never knew if I would ever
take the time to check it out and see how it done.

Im pretty much a total newb to the guitar and music as of the moment.
Ive always loved music and Ive always been intrested in the idea of
learning to play guitar. I Actualy didnt go out looking for a guitar
when I bought my fist one here recently. It was in mind to pick one
up someday but I had no clue as of when and how I would learn. Anyhow
or anyways I was at Wallmart looking around at the rollbacks and I
spotted a lone guitar in the electronics section. So I figured I
would check it out. It looked decent although the box was alittle
beaten and it turned out to be an electric. Ive heared that electric
may be helpfull in learning due to the string pull but ive heard
otherwise also too. So anyhow I asked the clerk about it. He said
that it was the only one in store and was actualy a return somone
brought back. He told me to make an offer for it and assured me that
it was tested and worked. I said 30 in a no go lowball of course but
he ended up setting a deal at 60. I figured what the hell, its a start
and it sounded like a pretty fresh deal. I did have to buy a guitar
amp wire and pick that somone forgot to return but aside that im
content with the deal. Ive been picking the string off it since I
bought it a couple weeks ago. No actual music persay but I do manage
to get some repeative beats out of the thing. Ive been trying to
cleanly work the fretboard without touching the other strings and
trying to learn picking one string a few or another. As that looks
important. Still no real playing as of yet in my oppinion. So in the
moment I find myself here and wanting to learn. I hope that I can
learn some usefull things, find some usefull tools and maybe make
some friends. Anyhow folks I hope to hear youre feedback!

Whats happenin Derrick, Welcome to the forums man!. I'm not a big car fan, but I know we gota have some car fans in here somewhere. Also a lover of music and rock. What kind of rock bands you into?

As for all the military and gov't talk, we have a cool section called the Mosh Pit were those discussions are always going on. You have to have a pass to get in, but your opinion is always open there. I'm not exactly sure he requirements for getting in other then that. I'm sure Sixstring or someone else will fill you in good.

I'm a pretty bad guitarist myself, so don't worry about being a noob at playing :) Glad to have another addition to the forum and another guitarist on my level. There are some really talented musicians here that are way better then me. But its awsome listening to them.

Anyways...Welcome to the forums!

Right on Acoustic. I hear ya as this stuff looks so hard
to me. My fingers feel, well, retarded. lol
I know a couple peeps around here that play. Jacob the one
that got me intrested in them I havent talked to in awhile.
He was pretty close to newbism. His Dad was teachin him I
think. He showed me about all im workin with as of now. Ill
have to see what hes up to. Good luck youreself. Bet its
fun when you can throw some music from one.

Yeah I like politics to an extent. I guess its when youre
talking to some crooks about them the enjoyment stops.lol ;p

Yeh I've been playing for a good time now, and i'm content with my playing..becuase I can play what I started out to. I love Folk music. Thats all I originally wanted to play. But now that I can I wish I new this theory and how to finger pick and hybrid pick and all these other fancy things that would make me better. But I'm lazy, and I play my folk music to much. I always tell myself I'll just get around to it sometime. But it doesn't seem to be happenin. :)

Welcome to the boards. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll see a link called Inside the Music. They are free lessons of very high quality. Start at the beginning and by all means, feel free to ask any questions. Main thing is, don't expect it overnight and don't get frustrated. It takes a while to get it down, but it's worth all the time and effort. If you follow the lesson plan and practice, you'll be playing songs before you know it.

Hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot! Good luck. :)

Welcome to the forum. Everyone started with nothing in the beginning. Like Six said, do the lessons here and you'll get there. Keep at it. Yes, your fingers are going to hurt, and no, there's nothing you can do about it but practice. Yes, your fingers are dumb right now, practice and it will get better. No, your fingers aren't too big or too small. Your hands aren't too big or too small. Practice and everything will come together.
You starting to see an underlying theme here? ;)
Enjoy the forum, you'll learn a lot here.

Six, Thanks man. I checked out the lessons. Very informative.
Ive been practicing some with left hand fret setup. I read the
information on theory, but didnt stick. Gonna take awhile to
get that stuff memorised no doubt. Trying to keep myself from
getting frustrated. lol No small feat tho. I can tell alot of
diffrence in my fret work since I studied the fret lessons.Kind
of like the home keys on youre computer keyboard. Sets my hands
in place. Although I still have problems clearing other strings.
Thanks Six~

StratMan, Yeah I see what youre saying. Takes time to get a
memory for the hands I guess. I practice once or twice a day.
Not really enough though in my oppinion. Havent had the time
and than I get frustrated after awhile. Seems like if I havent
played in awhile and pick it up that I move alittle faster.
Doesnt make sence really, maybe I get tense after awhile and
it slops me up some. I really need to go out and get a tuner.
Tried my best to get an even upward tone from top to bottom
but things seem to move out of whack after awhile. Here lately
I havent been able to get things quite straight but thats me
foolun with it for a few minutes and no tools on hand. Might
try tonight in few. Thanks for the encouragment. Hard to learn
on youre own.

Cody, Thanks for the welcome man. Yeah Its nice here.
Everyone is pretty laid back and super helpfull.
Ton of smartasses out there. Its Refreshing~

I hear ya Acoustic. Play what you love and makes you happy.
Thats all its about. I try my best not to complicate things to
much that I love. Sometimes it can take the fun out of them.
Going to (Try) to learn some rock myself. Sounds like a huge
time investment. No idea what will happen. Take it as it goes
I guess. Do sorta wish I had bought an accoustic. They sound
alittle fuller but I dont know how to try and make this one
sound off to begin with. lol Ide be down the ladder either way.
