Hi; new to the forum, new to the guitar, I hope not to embarass myself too badly too soon. I plan to read and search a bit before I post my stoopid Q's!

I'll tell ya, I read all the posts in the "what guitar should I buy" threads that were in the sticky. Of course, I read them AFTER buying my used strat on Craigslist.

Well, how does it play? We preach "try before you buy" here, but I'm guessing you didn't. Did it turn out ok for you?
If it's got problems, tell us about them in Tools and we'll see if we can't get you straight.

Welcome Eddie:)
No question is "Stupid". It's a quest for knowledge, and that, in itself is not stupid:)
Ask away, but try doing a search first on the forums. Someone may have already asked, and it has been answered.

I have no good excuse; I have a cousin who's an excellent player, and his advice was identical to your forums: go to guitar center, play a few, buy what you like. He even offered to go with me, predicting that a Mexican strat would the way to go. I almost think that all the good advice should start with the caveat, "Are you in such a hurry to have something that you don't mind blowing your time and money on a first guitar that will only serve to teach what you should have bought?", to which I would have answered "that's me! who do I make this payable to?"
I ended up with a Chinese strat, the first string of which won't stay in the nut (I think that's what it's called). Cuz said that a tech could fix that and adjust the action for, like, $50, but I just put a rubber band around strings, at the bottom of the head above the nut. So far, so good. I'll worry about it more after I develop some finger calluses!

hahaha well...we all have to learn life's many lessons sometime. Good thing that you have a cousin to help ; it can be hard trying to play without some kind of help when you need it
