Hi everyone, I'm 16 years old and just started playing the guitar yesterday. I got a book called "the complete idiot's guide to playing guitar" so I'm trying to see how far I can get teaching myself. I really love RHCP and hope that some day I'll be able to jam along and play songs like Cant Stop and Under the Bridge, but imagine it'll be a few years until then.
I've been using an acoustic guitar for now because I'm just learning tablature, but my brother has a Gibson Les Paul which I will hopefully have some great times with :D

Welcome to Jam Session!
Don't think of it as "teaching yourself". There are SO many resources avaible to help guide you. This site for example. ANY question you have can be answered by somebody here.
I also urge you to make use of the myriad online lessons you can find all over the net absolutely free. You might even want to start with Stonedragon's lessons on this very forum!
