Hi, I'm 16 and I'm from Portugal. I have wanted to learn to play an instrument since I was a child, but never got around it because of Music Theory (I really hated that stuff).
Recently some of my friends and other people I know, started learning some instruments to form a band, I'm not looking to learn how to play the guitar to join their band, just want to learn it as a hobby and to play now and then, maybe play in school if someone asks (like in prom or something like that, I don't like parties anyway).
I've started learning the guitar about a week ago, I had my mother's classical guitar in a closet (really old guitar, 37 years or so). I've learned how to read tabs (or atleast the basic stuff :P), and trying to understand how tuning works, I also tried playing some songs, so far the only I can remotely play is Satisfaction from Rolling Stones and that is just the intro.
I've been reading some stuff and I'm trying to learn basic chords right now, like Em and C, they don't seem all that difficult to play but the transition from one to the other seems impossible:mad:
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone, I'll do my best to learn it fast so I can play some good stuff, but it'll be difficult as I'm in school, learning photography (started last year), computer programming (going to start soon), game design and have an English course to finish (2 years left).
My favourite band is Iron Maiden, I tried playing The Trooper but the intro alone is impossible, I can't play at such speed, but I guess that's very difficult and dumb for a beginner who doesn't understand anything about it.
Ok that's it, longer than I tought, hope it doesn't bother you guys. I just wanted to ask where to go next? Learn the basic chords and then what? Try some songs?
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I play left-handed, with the strings placed for a right-handed person, this is with the 6th string closer to the floor instead of closer to the ceiling. I think this is because I'm ambidextrous, it's easy for me to do stuff with either hand as long as I give it some practice (usually a few minutes are enough), also whenever I imagined myself with a guitar, I always tought of me holding the neck of the guitar in my right hand :P). But is this a bad habit? Should I play right-handed style or just the way it fits me best? Once again, thanks.
Thank you, I'll see y'all around.
