Hi... I am so ridiculously intimidated.
:)
I write lyrics (all different styles). I hear the music in my head but I don't know how to write it out and I've been too chicken to learn to play an instrument. So, I just bought a fender acoustic guitar and I'm teaching myself. ...
I live in Burbank... and was wondering if anyone can tell me what they did when they were learning, to not feel so intimidated by a community you know nothing about. lol.
Also- how long did it take you to learn how to tune your guitar??????
( I have a digital tuner but I really want to learn to do it on my own.)
thanks.

Hey, welcome!! weve got some great sections thatl be helpful to you, id post those questions you just had in the "getting started" forum. as for the tuning question, if youre talking about tuning by ear, thats a very rare talent some people have, dont get discuoraged if you cant (a tuner is MUCH more effective anyway.)

Welcome, um... MMM.
PLEASE don't make me include any of your music in a future Prezcast - I don't think I want to be heard saying "Here's a great tune by MMMMMMM. MMMMMM did a great job! Let's all congratulate MMMMMMM..." I sound like enough of a tool without THAT! :D
Just kidding - I'm really glad you joined us. Patience is the most important skil to use when just starting out. And yes, tuning can take an obscenely long time and can be quite frustrating to the new player. It's just one of many things you need to patiently work your way through.

Welcome and you won't regret getting that guitar, I've had one for about 8 months or so but got sidetracked a while back but now back to it, it just takes a lot of practice, just go to the getting started section and you'll be on your way, and you did a great thing to come to this board, these guys are very helpful so you're in good hands.

ha!you just bought a guitar and started to learn, spur of the moment style!i like that, you're cool now :) just use the tuner for your guitar, you wont be able to really tune your guitar by ear until you can start picking,so stick to the tuner!hope you enjoy it here at JS,and remember "anyone can play guitar, and you wont be a nothing anymore"-radiohead.

Thanks you guys for posting such great replies! I appreciate it! btw: i bought my acoustic at guitar center (because where else would I go since I am new to the scene) and it came with an "instructional dvd" which sucked! So I found this website by chance and everything on here has been SO helpful! So easy to understand and clear and the begining excersises for learning theory and the notes has gotten me off to a great start.
I've been looking for a place to post praise for the site - if anyone knows where to forward thanks ... could you? lol
THANKS!

sup mmm, first of all dont be intimidated. I took lessons for 8 months and even after that I joined this site and was scared to ask questions. DONT BE SCARED MATE ! I've never seen anybody ridiculed for asking "noob" questions , cause we've all been there (or still) are.
With that said, I think you can find lots of stickies here explaining beginner stuff and i think also there is a lesson part of the site although ive never checked it out.
Just go easy, have fun playing, and when you get so damn mad at the thing that you want to use it for firewood, put it aside and come back later :D
WELCOME !
