Hi Stone, what does this mean?

On the music staff, sometimes I come across a certain symbol.

The symbol represented is enclosed in parenthesis here ( *//* ).

It is two slashes together enclosed by 2 small dots on each side. It is only thing in the whole bar.


I thought it was some sort of rest sign at first or maybe a symbol that says for the phrase to be played to take a break. I am not sure.

*//* means to play the exact same thing you played in the previous two measures.

I don't recall ever seeing more than two slashes.
