I have a new (to me) bass. The seller said that the pickups (Bartoline MK1-5s) needed to be replaced. But the seller doesn't know electronics, so I'm not trusting his word (besides, I find it a little odd that BOTH pickups would be out simultaneously). I've checked the wiring against a schematic and it wasn't wired correctly, so I re-wired it, but it's still not working. I've checked continuity and voltage as best I can and it is good (the battery is feeding the correct voltage to the points where it should, so I know that's not the problem).
Here are my possible points of failure (in order of the cheapest to the most difficult fix):
1) There still might be a continuity issue. I'm going to double check.
2) The power from the battery is switched in the input jack. I haven't checked this yet but will.
3) The circuit board is bad. I can buy an entire wiring harness for the bass without spending a lot of money. However I'd like to know if this is truly it or not before I spend the money.
4) The pickups may, indeed, be bad. That's an expensive fix, but still not too bad considering the paltry amount I paid for the guitar. Still, I'd rather not spend the money if I don't have to.
What I'm wondering is: is there a way to test active pickups directly, without dealing with the circuit board?
Thanks
