Drum Soloing

When you guys are playing a gig and the drummer wanst to solo what do you do when he/she is soloing? Do you stand there looking like an idiot or do you get off the stage?

I've never played a gig where having a drum solo seemed like a good idea.... at least not that I remember.

Nah, only when we did our jam where we all took turns on all instruments. (One would solo/fill while the others switched.) Since we all solo'd on the stuff we were best at I think James and I filled on drums, but not an official solo.

I've used drummers to solo in gigs though. They come in handy when a string breaks on a Floyd with no backup axe. D'oh!

Of course that also requires a drummer that doesn't nearly pee himself when put on the spot like that with nothing prepared. Boy was he mad at me! http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

I am not a huge fan of solos to begin with but there is a workable solution what we do is my drummer playes louder and a little faster on cirtan bridges in songs while I am still playing guitar and it works pretty well I am still playing but where he is louder he has a bit of a showcase.

The second gig I EVER played was a three hour show. We let the drummer do a solo and he went on for 15 minutes. You might think this was bad but, the audience LOVED it! Of course it helps if the drummer was the best in the state. (No, I am not kidding. He was in high school band and was 1st chair all state for the drums)

Well they all just walked off the stage. Which is freakin awesome i have to say. The drum solo has to be rather extended for that to make sense. On a shorter one I would get a little sumthin sumthin to sip on and just join in the audience's amazement at the overbearing awesomeness of the drum solo currently in progress.

We actually sat down on the stage and waited him to be done. Not that we didnt like listening to it....our drummer is insane! I know everyone says that but this kid is a virtuoso. Ill post a clip sometime
