Hi,new to the guitar after mucking around with it when I was younger.I did the usual school concert, and even though I was pretrified at the time I enjoyed it.

The first time I played, the stage light was right in my face so that I couldn't see the audience,so I just carried on playing La Bamba.

So now that I'm older, more round and wiser(23 y.old). I was wondering where I would start in playing for people. My current project/ambition along with learning is to record a CD(pc recording) and give it to my parents/relatives and friends.

Anyway enough rambling.Just want to get to know the rest of you guys. From the posts you all write, you sound like decent people http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif

Are you interested in playing solo or with a band?

both avenues are similar... you'll need to have a repertoire of songs (original, covers or both), and you'll have to keep an eye out for playing opportunities... or create your own.

But both avenues are also distinctly different in how you might get started.

Solo or group - Don't know, having been playing long enough to know the answer to that.

Hey - I already plan to do my first cd(the one parents and friends are going to get).I even got the title ready

"Blankets,Duvets and Covers"
- I think you get the idea.

If I form a band I think the name

"Doors wide open"

(gf keeps asking me why i keep leaving the doors opening in the house)
(but I think theres a band with that name, seems strangely familar.

Sounds like a mixture of "The Doors" and "With Arms Wide Open" by creed. But still pretty good i guess.

Hey Decosta!

You can also look around your area for open stage or open mic events. I play gigs regularly with a band but I still enjoy getting out to an open stage every chance I get.

It is really fun and you can get up and just play one song if that's all you've got. Usually some good folks around and a great place to hook up with other musicians.

Later,
Jeff

IMO just get on stage, anywhere. Even if it is just playing in front friends/relatives in the beginning. And why limi yourself to one or the other? Do all 3 ...

If you can find some musicians who're already playing out in the area, they'll know the two or three bars that'll let starting bands play with no experience. In Denver, for example, Herman's Hideaway lets anyone and their mother in for a slot on Wednesday nights - and then they'll give you, say, an opening shot on Thursday if you sound good and/or bring a fair amount of people in, and then Friday, etc.

...a the easiest way to start getting to know musicians in the area is to start putting together a band. As you try out with people and they try out with you, ask them where they've played and where they think a good first place to play might be.

By the way, I hate that name. And I hope y'all are as honest with me when I run band name ideas by y'all. *grin*

Just to put my money where my mouth is, my band's name is Flex Luthor. Hate away!
