Hey,
I just got asked to play guitar for a singer that I know for a wedding. I don't know why someone would want to hire just a singer and guitarist for a wedding, but mine is not to ask the reasons why.
Anyway, does anybody know some songs that could work for a voice (maybe two if I sing some stuff) and a guitar (maybe two if she plays some stuff, but only simple chords)? It's in a week and a half and we have to play for about three hours, so this should test my ability to learn songs. Any help appreciated.
BTW, at the same time, i have three essays to hand in, anybody want to help me with those?

Dude that's cool, that movie with Adam Sandler (spelling?) The wedding singer was just on the other night, you should watch it to get some ideas.
Good Luck

I love that movie!
You don't have much time, and they specifically asked for YOU, so I'd give them mostly what you usually play. The kinds of things they've heard you do already, that caused them to ask you. They can hardly expect you to adopt a new style in three weeks, and might be surprised if you do.
Same goes for the singer. Do some of her stuff and some of yours. You might ask the bride for a song or three she'd really like to hear and tell her you'll try to get at least one of them down. If you really feel ambitious, ask the same of her father, and then maybe even the grooms mother!
I did a friends wedding just like this once. We did the singer's material, a few standards, an instrumental original I composed for the occassion, and some improvised jamming (I flew in from out of town and the singer and I were only able to practice for about an hour, two days before the wedding). Another guitarist in the wedding party joined us for that bit. I'm glad we didn't have to play three hours! I was kinda nervous and only did 'okay'. Not a disaster by any means, though.
Good Luck!

Yeah, definately going with "Love Stinks", lol.
Actually, no one knows me at all. The singer is friends of the family and asked her to do something so she asked me to accompany her because the guitarist she used to play with doesn't seem to want to do it. Not an ideal situation to be in. I've played with her at a gig before and we had 45 minutes of songs, but we're sorely in need of more. I figure some fairly upbeat stuff would be good, but I usually play jazz or other stuff with a full band. Most of the songs I know don't really translate well to the guitar and voice thing. Any suggestions?

Well after 45min the effects of alcohol starts to kick in, witch is always incredable
especialy at wedding receptions, what I would do is try and witness a reception before you do yours and see what they play..oh yeah you know some idiot is going to yell. "Free Bird Free Bird" freek them out and do it that would definatly eat some time.
Good Luck
