I was asked to help doing lead for a band 2 days before they were about to do their songs, having no access to their songs, i didnt think it was a good idea, i would have had enoughtime to go over the material so i would have been reaching for the right notes, and chords, blindly, i didnt like the idea of that i like to feel somewhat confident before i assist others, does that make sense

Hi Shiner,
There are some people that can do it, but not many (and certainly not very many who can do it well), so it's probably not a good idea. Look at the trouble Clapton was having with McCartney at the Harrison tribute, I thought he was gonna blow a gasket. A bigger thing, I think, is that you have to get the feel of the band before jammin with them - you know, what there favorite turnarounds are, lengths of solos, etc. Hope this helps.

thanks man, well its worked out ok anyway as the person didnt call me last night, so i cannot be expected to play tonight, i did phone them to say i didnt think it was gonna be a good idea, ah i dont give a monkies anyway lol
So i never saw the tribute to harrison, i would love to see clapton choking up lol, i love his music and would never have thought he woudl choke up
