hey guys,
this weekend my band is going to start recording our demo. we have an mbox (two inputs) and no mixure. that means two mics. I'm not worried about getting good drum sounds or anything but i was wondering the order in which we should record. like if we should record rythm guitar, bass, then drums, vocs, then lead, or like record drums first, then add rythm guitar and the other stuff on top of it.
Or if we should record it live and then add the solos/lead guitar and vocals in? or anyothe ways?

thanks alot,
Shibby

I'm recording too.

If we can, we do drums first, then I play guitar, then the other guitarist, then bass, then vocals.

Use a metronome when the guitar or bass is recording first to help keep time.

We used to always do drums first. When I'm writing, I get the drum part first, too -- kinda sets the mood for the song ...

If you do have the drummer go first, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE SURE THE DRUMMER PLAYS WITH A CLICK TRACK. Izo. PT6 has a plugin if you don't have any midi devices.

For the love of humanity .. please use a click track.

Between guitarists and keyboard players decide who has the best timeing, then record them and the vocal togehter, and add everything else on top of it. That way you have good timing, the drummer does not have to memorize all the moves ahead, and you have the vocals down to keep referenece of where you are in the song. If the vocals get lost by the time everything else is done, just do the vocals over the original ones.
