Well, I'm more at the stage of my 2 bandmates live a few hundred miles away from me, and my lead singer plays bass cause we don't have a bassist, so pretty much, we ain't done sh-t in months.

Yeah? I live in a place where EVERYONE wants to be a rockstar and nobody wants to just jam!

I'm just starting a basement band. Me and the other guitar player have jammed together for quite awhile, but we dumped our old bass player and drummer in favor of some quality musicians. Then, just recently, we added a really good veteran singer. Right now we're building our song list and starting to put together a set list. We will be doing covers until we can slowly incorporate some original stuff. It's fun, but I can't wait to get out of the basement! Check us out at www.cornerband.com (http://www.cornerband.com) Look for Beggars & Thieves from Michigan

i've been jamming with a notsotypical garage band for the last couple of months. It was me and my drummer at first. We have been playing since we first started playing. The first practice was him and i in a room you couldn't even walk in nevertheless have a drumset and and guitar. I had to stand in the hall way so the feedback wouldn't kill us. We played "Higher" until our heads turned blue. We got a bass player who's not so great, but at least he had a garage. The strange thing is we're playing our own stuff and just now playing covers. It's gonna be hot as heck in there this summer (in louisiana)

Any progress in the "just started my band" category.

We (Beggars & Thieves) have got about twenty tunes ready to go and hope to have another 20 in a couple of weeks. I've started talking to bar owners and promoters looking for gigs. I hear that when trying to book bands, mosts gigs will be about 30 days out.

Yeah, I got a couple people who want to start a band with me, but getting them to get over and actually play some tunes is a doozie.

Well, I just started playin with some friends of mine, basically we jam in the mornings in the school music room. On fridays we go to my friend's church and use all their mikes and mixers. it isn't so bad, we're gonna do a coffee house in May. Right now we do covers, older Weezer, The Ataris, HibiscusBloom, and I'm writing some lyrics to try some original tunes. Mostly about lost love and passed loved ones. Hey, it's a start!!

yeah, i just started getting a band togethor. i'm the only guy who's been playing for more than a year, so we're not very good. but wew still have a few songs (one is pretty good. remember 'flavor of the week'? they stole it from us). we dont have a good bassist, so i bought a cheap one from this old bud and i just sorta **** around on it, stealin licks from the who and such. we're playin at the other guitarist's school's dance...we're probably gonna tank. wish us luck

Good luck pinballwizard!

I'm with a bunch of guys. We play (mostly improv jam in a rented studio. The weak link is no good vocalist (though our former drummer has apparently switched to vocals/rhythm guitar - I haven't heard this yet). Beyond that we're not quite disciplined or committed enough as a group yet to get a setlist together. If we get comfortable enough, though, we might just do an instrumental improv thing at a friendly bar I know with a friendly, familiar audience we could scare up. We'll see.

Yeah?? Yeah??

Heck, I cant top that.

My friends around, are more the type of social music listeners.

You know all the kids at school listen to metallica so they do it to be one of them.

From the day I got my first guit, all I wanted to do is write music.

And I dont think recreating old formulas to make extra money is called doing that.(Sorry if im offending any metallica fans)

lets see....I have a friend who plays guitar, around as good as me, probably a little bit better because he's in jazz band and gets more practice. Our bassist is another friend of mine, he's musically challenged if that's a nice way to put it. Our drummer....well, we don't have a drummer but there's a set in my garage because my 10 year old brother plays. And that's about it for us, maybe i could get something real going when i move to LA next year.

Ur 10 year old brother? Plays drums? http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

I say you brainwash him into liking the type of music you do then push him into being the best drummer ever. InstaDrummer!. only not as instant. So what if he's 10? You could be a credible Hanson... http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/rollsmile.gif

The hardest elements of a band to find are the lead guitars and singers. choose them wisely. If you like the sound of your band changing either one of them will alter it forever. Its happened to one of my buddies and In my opinion after ozzy was gone sabbath was the suck.

we played our first real gig on saturday! good thing nobody knows the pixies, they probably thought our covers were originals. we didnt have time to finish our set though... but anyway we've only been together for half a year and 5 bass players... the current bass player actually likes the band and she doesnt suck so its looking good.

longdayina, your songs are really good. Though a lot of them sound like they have an extremely similar intro/opening. (eg, the light picking on the guitar growing steadily louder).

Otherwise, keep up the good work.

how do you copywrite songs ???

codewiz11
July 13th, 2004, 03:14 PM
You don't have to do anything to gain copyright ownership over something that you make yourself. As soon as you make a piece of music, you own it. Proving you are the one who actually created it first is the problem...
http://www.guitarnoise.com/copyrights.php

That should help you learn all about copyrighting.

The main way to copyright is to send your sheet music or a tape of your music to a government registration office. Costs about $35 each time. (Wait and compile a bunch of songs and then send them in together so you're not paying $35 every song every couple of weeks.)

Or you could do what's called the "poor man's copyright", which is what I used to do and it only cost you the price of a stamp or so. I won't talk about it in any more detail because I have found out that it might be a waste of time. (There's a dozen ways to fake a poor mans copyright.)
