A friend of mine had a wild night when he did his first gig ever in New York City. He said he was extremely nervous so he began to look for substances he figured would settle him down.
First, he drank some codeine-based cough medicine, then took a few Valium and then he began to drink Southern Comfort.
When he went on - doing a solo singer/songwriter/guitarist performance - he was sweating bullets and slurring his words.
Everything that could go wrong did and at one point a guy in the crowd yelled out: "You're too close to the microphone."
"Oh, thanks," my friend slurred, trying hard to save face in front of his many friends on hand for his Manhattan debut. "How far should I move back?"
"You got a car?" the wise guy replied.
