Howdy,
For lesson 3 theory, I managed to tape my guitars C notes. I printed out the sheets you provided "get hundreds" I not only wrote down the "C" notes but all the notes from the High E String across to the Low E string. I then circled the "Natural notes", which just happen to follow the pattern W-W-H-W-W-W-H. Ok so much for the Chromatic Scale I got that down. I then looked at the paper after all notes were written and noticed the trends.

1: 12th fret: Same as open strings

2: 12th fret anywhere matchs 12th higher or lower

3: Finding the Natural notes string to string always follow over 2 string and up two unless dealing with the B & E string which would then be over 2 strings and up 3.

Should I map the notes using "flats" as well as "sharps" on that sheet you gave?

I was curious about the lesson 3 (Music) section also. The fret listed shows the 10th fret to the right, but when placing the fingers to the C5 chord, the "C" starts on the 8Th fret & then the "G" & "C" move over to the A String & D string on the 10th Fret? I was confused here.

I managed to get Balls To The Wall down, but i'm a bit slower then the MP3 File your provided. I have a hard time memorizing the notes as I go. Would you recommend I read the screen while I play at the same time, or would it be better to read the first few notes, break the piece into smaller pieces and memorize it, then put it together in the end?

I'm having fun, and figured I would put this forum to good use by keeping you posted. Is that cool with you, or what?

That is what I do...in fact...specifically...

I do one sheet a day only....that is plenty for me right now with current schedule...and I typically work on them in my boring *** graduate psychology classes...... http://www.zentao.com/ubb/frown.gif

What i do is write in only the natural notes on the top neck diagram, sharps/flats on the second diagram...and then fill up the other neck diagrams entirely....all notes

At the bottom I list the intervals in the triads of Major, Minor, Dominant, and Augmented.

Then...I take another sheet of neck diagram and draw in the different triads as they appear for each 3 strings. (this is beyond lesson 3, and may not make sense now, and that is ok, but something to keep in the back of your mind for now...

Balls to the Wall-->Speed will come eventually...

Anyway, for what it's worth.... http://www.zentao.com/ubb/tongue.gif

MB... you are correct about that C5 chord being at the eighth fret. That is what we in the "biz" call a "screw up" http://www.zentao.com/ubb/redface.gif

I'll get that taken care of as soon as I get the laundry done http://www.zentao.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hi guys,
I have completed Lesson 3 completely now. I was surprised how fast I picked up "Cat Scratch Fever" It took me maybe 3 minutes to learn & memorize. I then played it about 20 times and have it down pretty good. Balls To The Wall is done as well.

I have a question about alternate picking on double strings? In Cat Scratch & Balls, do I have to alternate pick on inverted power chords?

Whats happened to lesson 8 - 40? Are you currently working on those Stone?

Down strokes on those two tunes. Rhythm... especially rock rhythm usually requires a lot of down strokes. It just sounds better. I think the only tune so far that you must use alternate picking on is Baraccuda.

I took off 8-40 to make room for the signup form... and because it makes the site look unfinished which will not allow me to get into the Yahoo directory. I'm still working on the lessons... I don't know how many there will be when I am done. I just picked 40 as a random number. There will be as many lessons as it takes to teach you every thing I know about playing guitar http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smile.gif

From what I have seen...will 40 be enough??

(That is a compliment)

Well... I went a little crazy in 4 and 5. I'm gonna spread things out a bit more in the rest so...

A little? http://www.zentao.com/ubb/wink.gif

I am on lesson 4 now, and just the tuning section had me scrambling in circles http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll be on lesson 4 for at least a week or so, which is fine.
