is that sort of thing possible, or do you need a tone and volume, well i know you dont nessicarily need a volume pot, but do you need a tone pot?

You don't need a tone pot. Strat bridge pickups dont have a tone pot. Without a tone pot, it will be as if the pickup's tone was set to max. You also don't need a volume pot, but if you don't have one you won't be able to turn the sound off unless you turn off the amp or unplug it. I would reccomend at least installing a kill switch, but a voume pot would still be easier.
Also, I don't reccomend not having a tone pot either for the sake of tone. Most of the guitar's tone comes from its pickups, and thats the only way to change the pickup's initial sound. If you already like the sound of the pickup though, or you don't mind not having control, go for it.

I did it that way for a while. Volume pots, while not necessary to actually make sound, are still quite useful to have sometimes.

Yep it works fine. Although it will increase the high treble frequencies slightly if you're used to hearing the pickup with a tone pot. The reason is that even when the pot wide open some of the high frequencies are still being filtered out. Removing the tone pot will thus brighten the pickup very slightly. If you're dealing with a humbucker it's not necessarily a bad thing, it can clear up the tone of a muddy humbucker a little if that's what you need. I've got one of my guitars wired this way and it did make the humbucker fairly bright but humbucker standards - which actually made it have the nicest clean tone I've got out of any humbucker before.

so i got it wired and the tone is awesome, better than i expected, but i think i wired it wrong. whenever i touch the adjustment screw on the side of the pickup i get this horrible screaching and it kind of buzzes all the time, more than just your typical pickup noice, which should be close to none,(its a fender lace sencor which is actually quiter than a noiseless).
do you guys have any diagrams that would show me how to wire this properly? thank you

Sounds like a grounding problem to me. :hmmm:

Does this happen when you touch any other metal bits?

In regards to needing a kill switch: I am pretty sure there are guitar cables that are made with a kill switch built into it with a little button on the head. Or maybe I simply dreamed such a thing existed?

yes, i realise it's a grounding problem, thats why i asked for a diagram of some sort to check my wiring, because i just kind of took a guess at what it should be. And yes they do have cables with kill switches built in, but im not interested in a kill switch.
And i guess i never specified but there are no other metal bits other than the strings:D

Sounds like you wired the output jack backwards. Reverse the wires and you should be good.
For a Lace pickup, make sure the Green and White both go to the sleeve of the output jack. And the orange goes to the Tip.
