Hey,

Is it possible to import a midi file to cakewalk and then save it somehow as a mp3?

I have heard this is possible, but have not figured out how.

thanks,

MrSamson

It's possible... in fact that is what you have to do if you are working with a combination of MIDI and audio data on a recording project.

What you have to do is play the MIDI tracks through your soundcard while you simultaneously record the output of the soundcard onto its own tracks (usually 2, if you want stereo). If your card is full duplex (most are, nowadays) then you should be able to play and record at the same time by making the correct adjustments in your windows or soundcard mixer.

Once the MIDI is recorded as audio, you just save those audio tracks as a Wav file (if you prefer to make your own mp3 in cool edit) or as an mp3 file with the mixdown audio feature.

It sounds convoluted, but it's actually a fairly painless process.

You might experiment with cool edit and see if you can play a MIDI file (with whatever you use to play MIDIs) and record the output in cool edit. If that works, you don't need cakewalk http://www.zentao.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
