Cool Edit is only $69. It's worth way more than that in what it can do for you. Why not just buy it and support the company?

It'll do all that with one hand tied behind its back. But bear in mind that Cool Edit only works with 2 tracks... basically a stereo file. If you're looking for something that will let you record multiple tracks, you would need to look into the 4-track plugin for Cool Edit or go with something else.
If you want an all out MIDI/audio setup, I would recommend checking out n-Track Studio (http://fasoft.com/main.shtm). If I weren't already invested in Cakewalk, I'd probably go with n-Track.

n-Track is a pretty good program. There's some stuff that's a pain in the a-- to deal with. Overall it's a pretty good program though. But that's what I was usin' before i bought my 8-track which is easier to deal with.

Can those of you who used both cakewalk AND n-track give a quick comparison review?
Ill soon start recording better when I get an amp that allows a relay to the computer. My stupid Crate GFX-15's headphone jack doesnt amplify to the computer. (Can I direct my guitar to my stereo reciever that has a mini amp and then to my computer without having speaker output?? Or will it blow something)

I would think using the headphone jack on the amp would work perfectly. What happens when you try it that way?
I've never used n-Track.... just read a lot of favorable comments and the price is right. I would suggest that you download the demo and mess around with it.
Cakewalk has moved on to Sonar, which sounds interesting, but relies on WDM drivers. Windows 98 SE is supposed to have "limited" support for these drivers, but that probably amounts to the "limited" support for USB that 95B was supposed to have. I have no intention of moving up to ME or whatever the next big M$ thing is supposed to be, So I'm probably stuck with Pro Audio 9.
If I didn't have any use for MIDI, I'd probably go with Cool Edit Pro.

Are you using a stereo plug, or trying it with a regular guitar cable?
Have you tried using headphones? Does the jack work that way?
