Cakewalk is not exactly guitar training software. And yes it is very good for creating guitar tracks.

There is a number of training softwares out there ... www.hitsquad.com/smm (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm)

One that I would recommend is Electric Guitar Coach. It is more for a beginner to intermediate level. It uses video and has jam along with bands. It is very well done and I found it helped me a lot. It also teaches you to play about 9 songs ranging from Green Day to Eric Clapton. Their website is www.charanga.com. (http://www.charanga.com.)

Another one, that I just got, is Playpro's Interactive Guitar. They also have a version for Bass.
This one is quite cool because it comes with an adapter that lets you plug your guitar or bass directly into your sound card. You can then use the built in tuner to make sure you are tuned to the guitar in the program. It also has a thing called Comp-u-pare that lets you record your playing and compare them to the examples in the application. It does lots more and rather than repeat it all here, check out their website. Their website is www.playprosoft.com. (http://www.playprosoft.com.)

Another excellent piece of software is Slow Gold. It allows you to slow down songs without loss of pitch so you can play along with it at a speed you can handle. I use this all the time to learn new songs. Check this out at www.worldwidewoodshed.com. (http://www.worldwidewoodshed.com.)
