making your own pickups

I've been contemplating building my own single-coil pickups for fun, but I haven't really seen any good resources online about how to go about it and the theory involved. Has anyone done this before or seen any good websites?

The best place I know of to go is www.stewmac.com
They have all the tools and parts you would need. Plus instructions.
That will definitely get you started.

I have never done it, but from what I understand it's not hard, just extremely tedious.
