www.mxtabs.net (http://www.mxtabs.net)
www.guitartabs.cc (http://www.guitartabs.cc)
MXtabs has ratings for there tabs, rated by the users, so you can see which are more accurate without wasting time. guitartab universe just has a good selection. if you wanna buy sheet music just wander over to your local music shop! they'll have plenty...

I just bought a book that is great. It has music and tabs for 200 classic rock tunes. It's called "The Fake Book of Rock" and cost $25 at Barns and Noble...

I forgot to add that I brought it to my tutor and he was impressed that not only did it appear very accurate but that the tunes were done in the key of the original artists.

in what way is buying a song book any different from getting tabs online? tab books are transcribed by ear, arent they? if so, doesnt that mean they are just as likely to be wrong as a tab you'd find on the net?

The tablature in the song books are 100% accurate with what the band plays. They are not made by ear.

i have seen alot of song books that say they are the authentic material as played by the band. i think a lot of them are published by Hal Leonard.

but when you look on the inside of these songbooks, most of the time, youll see 'transcribed by: _____'. And that someone is never one of the band members. do they intreview the band members or something?

That would make a Robert Johnson tab book very tough to do.

Some do. Some don't. With some of the books I own, the artist was actually involved in making sure things were accurate.
Be that as it may... the main difference between a book and what you find on the net is that the person transcribing for the book is paid by the publisher to get it right. Most of the stuff on the net was done by some guy sitting in his living room wishing he actually knew how to play the song.
I would say that of the books I've seen, 95% were very accurate. Of the tabs on the net I've seen, about 35% have been accurate.

another site you might try is www.tabcrawler.com (http://www.tabcrawler.com) . they have a ton of stuff but you take your chance as far as accuracy. i recently bought the "guitar tag white pages" . 1000 pages of note for note transcriptions. lots of clasic rock in there. imho it is a great book.
