G'Day.
I'm looking at replacing the humbuckers on my Fat Tele-style guitar. I'd prefer to purchase EMGs, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm wondering what a suitable humbucker for a Tele would be. Bridge Position. My price range is anything below 150AUD, pretty much.
Thanks guys.

only suitable pickup for a tele bridge is a tele bridge pickup, sorry but otherwise its just not a telecaster. you'll have to tell us what tone you want, there are a lot of different pickups with a lot of different tones, and just telling us a budget and asking for "the best humbucker" aint very helpful. so what you want to play with it, and what kinda tone you looking for?

I like the p90 in mine, but it's in the neck. Something to think about...

Funny you've quoted "the best humbucker", considering I never said anything about "the best". Best is a subjective term. Anyway, I was simply asking for suitable pickups that would sound similar to a Tele bridge pickup(or the most similar possible in a double-sized humbucker.)

ok, sorry man, i thought you were just asking another "what is the best pickup ever made" question :). if your looking for a humbucker which sounds like a tele pickup then your choices are pretty limited. you could go for some old filtertron type pickups (you might want to google that) to get a jangly tone, but its still not quite tele tone. if you want some nice tele tone then your only options are something like the SD twangbucker or a single coil tele pickup..... and i stronly suggest the latter, a tele with a bucker in the bridge just aint much of a tele, but a tele with a single coil in the bridge and a bucker/p90 in the neck is still very versatile!

Perhaps a P90 in a humbucker case would be the best choice? I've heard they're quite good for the Tele sort of sound.

p90s are closer to a tele than a humbucker, but their still no where near the same. www.guitarfetish.com has some supposedly very good bucker sized p90s for fairly cheap that you might want to luck into. seymour duncan and gibson do them too, but they cost a lot more!

How about coil tapping??

I'm gonna need someone else to back me on this, as I don't know much about it, but wouldn't this be the best option?

I believe all Seymour Duncan Pickups come "coil tapable"

If you DO do this you should also put a P90 in the neck.... A tele with a p-90, single coil and humbucker? Sounds pretty "suitable" to me...

Why not leave the SC in the bridge for twang, and get a humbucker for the neck for some serious dirt?

Because the guitar is a fat tele style one. the space at the neck is Humbucker sized.

Alright guys, been looking around a bit since the last reply in this thread.
It seems there are single coil "adaptors" for humbucker sized cut-outs.
If I wanted to get a SC Tele pickup to replace the bridge humbucker on my Fat-Tele, how would it go? Would it fit well with the adaptor?
Also, would the cut-out for the humbucker have any effect on the tone of the guitar or anything?
Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend a Filtertron like the GFS ones, or a humbucker sized P-90. Filtertrons can still give you plenty of twang. But with overdrive you get that classic ACDC crunch.
