My guitar to amp cable is "noisy" even before I plug it into the guitar! If I plug it into the amp and move the cable around, it buzzes and burps even before I connect it to the guitar. Its a setup that hasn't been used since it was bought over 10 years ago. Should I replace the cable? Also, the volume adjuster on the guitar is "crackly". Is this normal for Encore guitars?

Cables are always noisy if they're plugged into an amp, but with nothing else on the end. It's normal. I think possibly some people will tell you that the pops and fizzes might damage your amp, but I don't think its something to really worry about. It's annoying though.

To avoid it, just pull the cable 1/4 inch out of the amp before you go to unplug your guitar.

As far as the crackly ajuster..... it just means that the pot is dirty (or possibly just a rubbish pot). You could possibly clean it by spraying a load of wd40 in it and twisting it for about 10 minutes...... or you could just buy another pot for about 50pence.

Sometimes, depending on how dirty the pot is, you can clean it by just rotating the knob back and forth real fast several times. The crackly sounds will diminish the more you turn it. Try it.
