I think The nut is too high, so I want to shave it down. Is there a way to get it off with out undoing the strings?? I have a First Act elektrik Guitar. I don't know if it's important, but above the nut, there is a plate with "ME455" on it. Do I need to remove it?? And does the "ME" stand for made in Europe??

I don't think you'll want to remove the nut at all if you just wanna file it down man. You'd need some small precision files to get into the slots in the nut i would think. What makes you think the nut is too high? Are you finding it hard to get the action low enough? Is the guitar not holding tune well? Is it hard to intonate it properly, meaning the open strings are in tune, but scales sound "off" at different points on the neck? Often times you can sorta lube up your nut (pardon the innuendo) by rubbing a pencil in each nut slot a bit.

As for the "ME" I have no idea what that means. Lots of companies just use numbers to denote a series of guitar models. For example the "SG" in the Gibson SG supposedly stands for "Solid Guitar" but it's not really publicized or anything.

graci, arigato.
The reason i want to try filing it down is bekause I want to klose up the spase between the nek and the strings, so I don't have to press down so hard. I suppose, though, that trying to file down the slots would do the same thing. Never thought of it

Ya gotta be more specific with the thread titles.

I thought this thread would be about a bad bicycle accident...

I think you should just take it to a guitar shop and get it set up professional, it will only cost around 30 bucks and it will do wonders for the playability. First act guitars are pretty much the WORST quality guitars on the market, even for the price. If you try to do stuff yourself being new and all you might mess it up worse than before. Just a warning.

I KNEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW it was low quality. I had this feeling it was cheap. Alright thanks for that.

Edit: While I'm here, Is there anyting else I should try to have done to improve the quality. Sinse it's so bad, i tkan only get better right???
