Been waiting since July at Transformers.

Yep, same here. Saw the viral campaign a long, long time ago and have been addicted since.
I have high expectations for this flick...It better not out to be a ******* overgrown turtle or something.

Someone said something about a whale monster.
But if I really DID know, I don't think I'd ruin it for others, since the whole movie's "schtick" is not showing the monster.
I'm going to see it because one of my best friends wants to go. I think we're seeing it opening night, because we might as well see the surprise for ourselves, right?

Looks like it may turn out to be another crappy Godzilla movie.

there's talk of the monster being cthulu, but not godzilla. If it's godzilla or a whale monster, I will get up and ask for my money back.

This is what I heard too. If it is C'thulu, this movie is gonna ROCK!

Just based on this I can tell it won't be good...
Whats honestly the best 90 minute movie you have seen that wasn't a comedy. The budget is kind of low too... so expect alot of digital effects.
Due to the genious marketing ploy (previews) this movie will make a killing on its opening weekend. My guess is that it will get one to two stars at the most...
My prediction: Another 'Forgotten' type of film that made its small success on the previews. This film will most likely suck. Wait and and check the reviews before wasting your money on it... otherwise you will just encourage more ****** movies...

The same producer for Cloverfield also produced:

I think opening weekend it will make about $20 million.
Then again, it's been a SLOOOOWWW few weeks, with NATIONAL TREASURE and THE CHIPMUNKS (God, why?) being real box office winners lately, and I AM LEGEND is still going pretty strong. I mean CHIPMUNKS has made $180 million already!!
I always ask myself, "What is this world coming to?" when stuff like STEP UP, NORBIT, BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE 2, EPIC MOVIE or SCARY MOVIE 4 get number one over the weekend, let alone end up breaking beyond the $100 million mark.
I don't expect CLOVERFIELD to be a good movie, and most people aren't going to use imdb.com to find out WHO the director is, and what past achievements/failures have been brought to their repertoire.
If it goes by way of DRAGON WARS - which the biggest ploy and advertising was shortening the title to "D-WAR" in hopes of catching the success of other abbreviated titles like ID4 or AvP - then I'll be surprised. I hate shaky-cam amateurish cinematography, and my friend that wants to see it gets motion sickness pretty easily, so we'll be sitting in the back row. I don't "get" why he wants to go, except I guess because of the cheap "don't show the monster" silliness.
Either way, a thirty million dollar movie is kinda cool, because if it DOES do well, then yes there will be more worthless movies that get released, but maybe a lot of those won't cost $200 million as often. SNAKES ON A PLANE was not the success that was predicted by the online buzz of the title alone, but it made its money back because it was CHEAPLY MADE. So even if this flick bombs, they aren't losing much. They'll make it back in DVD sales and what-not.
No matter what happens though, Hollywood will still be making worthless movies that have no right being put onto celluloid, and most of them will make TONS AND TONS of cash, and cost a lot as well. Look at Michael Bay! Where would he be without his nice cars, fast women and big explosions (not THOSE explosions, you sickos!)?
The bottom line is the bottom dollar. Many people will see crap movies because all they want is "entertainment", where I also like to be entertained, but I don't like my intelligence being insulted at the same time. I think I'm in the minority with that one.
If a group of people are being stalked by a killer, I don't think they should split up. I don't think that lone girl should investigate the dark corner by herself just after her best friend was decapitated. Nor do I like it when the story advances merely because of the stupid actions that were caused by the lead characters every single step of the way.

Producer also did Armageddon and Lost, so there is a small ray of hope.
If the monster is stupid then oh well. Tremors is one of the best monster movies of all time to me, and it has giant fkin worms.

Muymal,
the main hype started at Transformers back in July. Literally, the theater was alive and talking when this preview came on. You could hear a pin drop. Afterward, there were about 900 people (or however people fit into the cinerama dome at arclight) saying "What was that?! Holy crap" .. I was one of those people.

Yea, it had a pretty genius marketing ploy. And even though we all realize, were still falling for it.
First preview I ever saw, decapitated Statue of Liberty, 1.18.08.
Gave me shivers, I was hooked.

I believe that was the winning design in some sort of "Guess the Monster" contest. If the monster is a giant angry whale, I'ma be ******.

OH NO. now i'm all excited about this movie. oh well, i guess i'll just find someone to see it with. haha.
there are some videos on youtube of what people think that monster is. It is not Godzilla though. The producer kind of said that himself.
I dont know what it is though, but i think that the marshmallow man was done in ghost busters.

Everyone making up their own ideas of what the monster will be is going to make the ACTUAL monster a massive disappointment. lol

hes sort of a god like entity from H.P. Lovecraft's stories. I don't think it will actually be Cthulhu in the movie, but it might be some sort of monster thats similar to him.

Movieweb has what they claim is the first decent image of the monster from the mysterious upcoming movie "Cloverfield". Granted it's just a picture of the toy version of the monster, but it's still a little disappointing. It looks very much like what you might think a Hollywood monster would look like. You might want to disbelieve, but I think this is it. It's the image you've all been waiting for. Just check out the three claws on this nasty looking thing's hand!
I know we have been running a lot of Cloverfield stories on the film's viral marketing ad campaign today, but a new image of a supposed Cloverfield monster toy has "suddenly" surfaced. And it was indeed created by Peter Konig, the art director for the film.

Reminds me too much of 'The Blair Witch Project'. For that reason alone, I will absolutely not see this movie.

That's interesting. I hadn't thought of that before. Probably reminds you of BWP because of the shaky cam.
If they don't show the monster and you're left to imagine it, I'll share that sentiment.
