I like recording myself play but as of now I got the worst way ever. I got one of those stupid mikes for computer you buy at walmart. Like one you would use on a web cam. Well I put that in front of my amp and record it with the sound recorder that Windows comes with. Anyway I was wondering if there is a downloadable recorder made for Windows Me that might help the sound some. Is there such thing. I just want a more complex recorder thats made to record something well. I know my mike sucks but that can't change because I have no money now. :( Thanks

Hey Roco,
There are freware and shareware recording software out on the net. Look for
"Audacity"
"Acid Pro"
"N-Tracks" (I think)
and others.
If you can afford a cable you can go to Radio Shack and buy a cable to go from your line out of your amp to the line in or mic in of your computer. It has 1/4" on one end and 1/8" on the other. Or keep using your mic.
The quality of the recording has more to do with the sound card on your computer than it does the software though. the software just allows you to record and mix multi traks and add effects and maybe filter out some noise if you work with the settings.
The mic you've got, while not the best, can probably do a little better if you try moving it around to different positions to your amp, like face on, side on, closer, farther away, facing away from the amp, etc. Try a lot of places to find what works best.

They have a lot of articles and a forum as friendly and helpful as this one.
See ya

It's always difficult to overcome computer recording issues unless you have the resources to purchase the hardware you need. I recommend getting into a 24-bit PCI based Audio Card, but I have found a less expensive USB based interface that I use with my notebook (@lunch I'll record guitar - V-Amp - USB Transit into Guitar Tracks loaded on my notebook).
M-Audio USB Transit (http://www.audiomidi.com/aboutus/reviews/edge_transit.cfm)
I found it for about $70.00.
