ok i just recieved an awesome like $600 guitar from winning a contest last week. this thing is so awesome but when you look and hear who plays it u wanna take the guitar and smash it over my head. i am not good at this yet at all. i have slaved over the lessons at this site trying to get it right and im just not good at it.my fingers hurt like hell but im still going trying over and over again. this looks like a great place to ask for help because it sounds like from what i have read that you people no what you talking about,i just need tips on like how to hit the rite strings make it sound good and be able to carry a simple tune and be able to do it again after i get it once. please help me

You have to ask specific questions. Otherwise the only advice anybody can give you is PRACTICE!

I suggest you start working through the Beginner Lessons (http://www.zentao.com/guitar/guitar-lessons.html). There's no magic secret. You just have to practice until you can do it.

Trust us when we say this. Playing guitar, or any instrument for that matter, takes a LOT of time and practice if you want to get good. Your fingers WILL hurt because thats part of the process. Your fingers arent used to moving the way they are right now and you are developing new muscles.

Even just developing a simple melody takes time in itself.

If you want to fake it (and you enjoy basic folk like songs), you STILL have to learn a few basic chords (which are described in the first few lessons SD shows) and those still take time. If you want to learn more modern rock stuff, you will have to work at it.

It takes a lot of patience and practice, but its a fun ride
