I wrote this saturday, still needs a lot of work, but I was in the mood to write so....
I Was
Halfway home to Dixie Georgia
When the truck ran out of gas
I set my feet a walking
Headed for the over pass
Cause
Back home in Dixie Georgia
There’s a girl I left alone
She calls me every night
Crying on the Telephone
She says
She needs a man to hold her
Someone there that she can call her own
She’s tired of waiting on her Cowboy
To leave the Rodeo
Now it’s just me and my guitar, on this Asphalt Rodeo
Not sure how long it will take, but I’ve got to make it home
Halfway home to you, halfway home to you
Nothing’s going stop me, Lord I’ve got to make it through
It was
Just a few miles down the Highway
A stranger stops to let me in
Says boy where headed
And do you know just where you’ve been
He said
The Highway can be lonely
Out here no ones your friend
The miles can last for ever
It seems the road can have no end
Then he
Pulled the car on to the shoulder
Said it went as far he could go
Said the rest was up to me
I knew which way I should be going
Now it’s just me and my guitar, on this Asphalt Rodeo
Not sure how long it will take, but I’ve got to make it home
Halfway home to you, halfway home to you
Nothing’s going stop me, Lord I’ve got to make it through
Yeah,
Now it’s just me and my guitar, on this Asphalt Rodeo
Not sure how long it will take, but I’ve got to make it home
Halfway home to you, halfway home to you
Nothing’s going stop me, Lord I’ve got to make it through
Well I,
Finally got to Dixie Georgia
It looks like I finally made it home
I can see the porch light burning
Now she won’t have to be alone
No this,
Cowboy’s finished riding
No I ain’t ever leaving home
I’m going to stay Dixie Georgia
And let the Asphalt Rodeo be gone
Cause I don’t ever want to be
Just Halfway Home
I Was
