Yeah, for those who don't know I'm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to play in the Hilton hotel's club, named Zeta Bar. Yesterday (sunday night) was the staff party, everybody was invited, our band, the DJ, bartenders, waiters and waitresses, security guards, even the guy who cleans the men's toilets.

The facts: We were having fun, drinking and eating BBQ by the pool at the manager's appartment building. It was the time of the evening where everybody get thrown into the pool all dressed up. The manager was in the pool to help those who can't swim to get out (oh yeah, you would be surprise to see how many people in Asia-Pacific can't swim, a land of beaches and islands, non-sense).

The guy who's cleaning the men's toilet get thrown into the pool, he obviously can't swim and got help to get out. But without anybody noticing, he undress himself except his underwear and go back into the pool. Minute later, the DJ sees him at the bottom of the pool, not moving at all. He took him outta there, and started CPR. The ambulance took forever to come, but our good friend John Davs (the DJ) saved the poor guys' life. He's still at the hospital, plugged onto a machine to help him breathe, but apparently he's ok. Thanks God...

Beyond the facts: I know the guy looks like a complete moron, or drunk. But there's something beyond the story that make it so much more sad, well, for me it does.

That guy, that nobody seems to know the name, is known by most employees as 'the cleaner', and that's it... He's originaly from Nepal, came to Malaysia to work, doesn't have any family here. And obviously no friends in the staff. He came to the party alone, people says Hi to him but that's about it.

Some remember him drinking beer with a straw, then the pool. Can you imagine be that guy? Doesn't have anybody here, goes to a party, start to chill and drink a bit, but he obviously never drink, he's being catched and thrown into the pool; he start to feel a part of the gang, ya know, and bam, stupid thing... was he too drunk, maybe. But I can't get out of my head that he just wanted to be like all the others... accepted. It makes me feel extremely weird...

Besides that, two thumbs up to our DJ who saved a life...

Sorry for the long post, must have been something I had to share...

It can be tough being the outcast; and accidents can happen very easily when alcohol and swimming pools are involved especially when someone's not being paid much attention.

Good job for the DJ saving him; the upside to all this is that if the guy survives and comes back to work EVERYONE will remember him from now on. Ironic, but this just might make the guy more popular.

Yeah, Im sure thats how the toilet cleaner guy wants to be remembered..the guy who almost drowned in his underwear. Mr. B you're a genius, know that? lol

If he cleans the womens bathroom he could hold them. I hear they get quite heavy after a while, and taking a dump is where you should be most comfortable anyway

Great post. Sad. Really sad.

It is really to your tremendous credit, Hitmen, that you wrote that. It was one of the most observant and sympathetic pieces I ever read on this forum.

As you know no doubt saw at the party, and other parties you play at, some people go through life, and don't even see these poor people. They don't even know they are there.

But your empathy, definitely tied to your artistic, musical soul, can seem to be a curse, because everybody sees cruel stuff like that all over the place every day!

I'm not sure, but I think the best thing is to come to terms with it, by treating people nicer, or writing about it, so people understand what goes on. 'By doing SOMETHING. Maybe, in this case, you could find out the guy's name and talk to him, if he's lucky enough to recover, and come back to work.

Then, after handling it, in our own way, we must move on, for our own sake.

You cannot perfect the planet alone...
