god...botb in a month and me n some buddies decided to enter. we're only a 3-piece and my buddy says he wont sing under any circumstances, and the drummer thinks he'll have trouble doing both, so they pushed me into it! i tried to tell them i can't sing but they wont listen...so now im a singer for a band. i dont wanna sing but i GOTTA play with these guys they're the only available guys who are any good lol. i just know im gonna mess up my singing when i get up there on stage, because i dont think ill have guitar trouble...but i might if my singing goes bad. any ideas?
ps-its all origional stuff lol, so its like gonna be pretty hard to get it all down in a month...at least 30 min. of material! :confuse:

Choose songs that suit your voice (don't try to screech the high notes if they aren't natural to you). Also pick songs that are easy to sing and play - strummers with only a few chords are good. The audience will be more impressed if you can do a great job on some easy songs than if you mess up some difficult ones. Put your full setlist together ASAP and get everyone learing all the songs ASAP. You have one month - that means that if there are songs you can't do after two weeks practice - scrap them you probably won't be able to do them in a month either. You should be able to play through your whole set two weeks before the gig so you have time to fix all the little problems before the gig.
Most of all relax. You can do it if you keep your wits. Think about what you have to do and stay focused.

I agree w/ crusty. Also, you need to kick your band mates in the ribs about singing. As a three piece you will have to have everybody sing.
A 3-piece band can be very impressive, but only if you carry the thing off. The advantage is, its less complicated with 3 people. Good luck.

Yeah, and a lot less hassle to schedule practices too.

You'll get much further with a devoted singer, if you don't like your voice then neither will the audience. You should put your foot down and insist that your mates find another one. If you have only 1 month to learn a 30 minute set then its gonna be really really tight, my band has had 4 months to practise a 45 minute set for a huge gig (1 month away now) and we still havent finished with our material, aint that right thunder_bird. Anyway think hard about your singer because you dont want to make the same mistake we did and get an egotistical tyrant who has completely different (*cough* emo) tastes in music. Make sure he/she has a good personality and is reliable, as well as having a good voice

one good thing about a 3 peice that helps you in this situation is that its easier to get u all together for a band practice

Though I don't agree with recruiting some up-start out of the halls who jumps around, twirls her hair, and sings in that cutsey, squeaky voice, it seems like your only choice to get someone to sing for you guys, even if only temporary. So just get someone serious about it, 'k?
