Chords

I'm a total beginner and i finally decided to learn playing guitar. I have a problem with the chords at lesson 1. I can't read that neck diagram. I mean I don't know where to put my fingers! Which fret? I can't see anywhere telling me which fret to use...can you help me? Thx...

Hi Nightwing,

All those chords in the first lesson are played in the OPEN position. The open position is usually considered the first four frets of the guitar neck. Unless you see something telling you to play a chord at a higher fret, you can pretty much assume the the diagram is representing the open position.

For example... the Emaj chord is played by putting your index finger at the first fret of the G-string, your middle finger at the second fret of the A-string and your ring finger at the second fret of the D-string.

Towards the bottom of the page is a picture of a guitar neck beside a chord diagram. That should help you visualize what the diagrams mean.
