Just a short demo of mic placement I did rather quickly...

just showing you how mic placement effects tone...
done rather quickly.. so not perfect..

played tot the opening riff of We Die Young By Alice In Chains
yes i'm in Drop C and not Drop D so what..

the two mics are a Shure SM57 on the edge of the cone of the speaker
and a clip on mic on the sm57's mic holder.

1st time is :- both mics
2nd time is :- clip on mic
3rd Time is :- SM57
4th Time is :- both again

Thanks for the Demo. I do not know diddily about mics so are these ones you are using are they high medium or low quality mics?

If a person has the option to in line through their computer would it be wiser to just use the in line and get a quality sound card to handle it or do mics give a more preferred sound?

nice vid, it shows the different tones that can be achieved.

I usually just place a sm57 about half a foot away from my amp, it works :rolleye:

the sm57 is quite high quality.. but the clip mic is rather cheap..

it might be best to get a something that can handle sound well, so a quality ASIO card would be good, but if you plan to record at home with low-ish volumes then you'll need a pre-amp.

best would be a tube one. A decent mic and pre amp would cost you upto £300...
£100 for the mic £200 for the pre amp.. if it's a good one then it will have two inputs for two mics on separate channels.
