I just bought a Samick J2, Jumbo guitar for 178. It is built very well with real Grover tuners and laminated spruce top and nato sides. Awesome sounding guitar, believe it or not, Great feel.
I just put a Dean Markley soundhole Pro Mag Grande, piano black, humbucker pickup in the Jumbo and it is hardwired in with a tail pin jack, so I can use any guitar cable, much more durable set up.
It sounds awesome thru a regular guitar amp, Marshall MG15CDR and even better when using an outboard belt clipable Dean Markley acoustic preamp, active true bypass EQDME3. Great outboard preamp.
I can't believe how great this preamp and humbucking acoustic pickup work with a regular guitar amp. It sounds beautiful. The non humbucking versions of the Dean Markley Pro Mag probably would be squealing and carrying on because they are not humbucking. Even without the preamp the pickups sounds great thru the guitar amp, just that it doesn't have enough input signal strength and you have to turn up the amp a lot. With the active preamp the volume is normal just like with a regular electric guitar.
I haven't even tried my Jumbo w humbucker thru my Crate Gunnison sixty watt two channel awesome acoustic amp yet.
Thought some of you would be interested.
The Samick Greg Bennett series acoustic guitars are great build quality and sound great and play great, The Jumbo J2 is awesome. They have a twelve string dread for about 275 that sounds super great. You don't see Samick's at very many places, but the search is well worth it. Supposedly you get about three times the quality guitar per dollar spent on other inexpensive guitars.
I want a Fender Sonoran.
